I always put the phone number into a search engine to see what comes up. There is often useful information and sometimes not so much.

Sometimes I will Google the number, but I understand there are companies that charge for the service.

I just got a weird looking number from Washington D.C. Let it go to voice mail - no message left.
Bing and Google searches showed the number as a credit card scammer.

You can try searching PIPL’s search engine (https://pipl.com) for phone numbers for free (does not include mobile numbers) .
If you want for bulk search with mobile phones and high match rates you can try our paid service called FILES

J.R. Schloemer - Google is what most people would suggest. Also check ZABASEARCH, PIPL, SPOKEO, PeopleFinder and for spam numbers 800notes.com!

You can search if they have their number registered with Google or Facebook. I do not spend the time searching for this though.

Google is my friend. I also have Call Detector/Privacy Star which will do a reverse lookup that is helpful about 65% of the time. Cell phones tend to come back with just a city name lately.

Don't know of a way to find cell numbers unless you have name and/or company and then it's listed publicly; reverse search may give you the location of where the number was obtained.

There are services, but you have to pay for them. Sometimes I'll check a # on whitepages, or zabasearch, etc.

Sometimes you will get lucky with a google search, if they are active in a community or sell a lot of crap on craigs list.
Most Real Estate agents have their cell number all over the net.

Often a Google search reveals something. That's all I know. Btw...if it doesn't reveal the obvious, then you have an intruder to be sure hiding. Anything legitimate should be transparent

J.R., I don't think there's a way unless they've used their cell phone numbers on social media. Try entering the number by using (*).

I am having an airhead moment. You have the number, you want to find out who the number belongs to? (Sorry if I am misunderstanding!) Just Google search the actual phone number and anything they have used that number in, an ad, CL, FB, anytime they have posted it, it will be searchable. This is how come Realtors get so many sales calls. Our numbers are generally plastered all over the Internet.

So Google and Bing are not displaying the responses I desire, which they often do not, in my experience. I have found SpyDialer. I can not say it is the most accurate or the best, but it does appear to show a bit of information for cell phone numbers, for free. I did also notice Intelius may be a good option, but it does cost money.
I really appreciate everyone's comments and suggestions. Keep up the good work.
