You want the exact number including the doghouses wives force their husbands into when they don't take out the garbage?

I couldn't begin to guess as I'm sure minimal records were kept... but if you ever find out, Will, let us know!

I willing to guess that more were purchased in the last 40 years than in the first 200.

It would be a huge number. I am so gald that is a freedom we have. During my career I have sold the same house 4 times and other 2 or 3 so my numbers are in the thousands but who's counting, right?

Millions. And I imagine a few that were built way back then are still around. My Mom's house that she sold back in 2014 had a portion of the property that was originally built, per old records, in 1775

NAR could probably tell you since what .... 1929 when they were formed?
Probably under the statistics tab.

No idea but I'm guessing records were pretty sketchy until NAR came into existence. Wonder also how many were sold since then.

I'll go with Gabe's comment on this one. I am sure it is one large number!

Will Hamm - average 2 Million in first 100 years, 3 Million in next 80, 4 Million and next 50 and now, we are at about 5 Million....
Let's do the math...

Really? Come on, Will. Did you buy some Independence Day special weed or something. You seem like you might be in a deep thinking way.
3,743,313
Who knows? Back in the day, they didn't issue building permits or keep track.
3,416,038
Good question and no idea for an answer - but would that be against the PC answering code?

Purchased and sold and re-purchased again? I do think the concept of the American dream of owning a home is shifting a bit with the millennials.
2,377,891
2,443,250
6,422,418
Number of homes purchased or number of home purchases?
Some of those home have been re-sold a few times.

I'm sure some records were lost in a fire somewhere at some point, so there would be no way to know an accurate number. Should be a mind boggling number though!
1,292,219
Will, I don't think anyone ever kept record until the MLS came along. Your guess is as good as any.
1,525,616
823,679
Wouldn't that be great if we could find out and also how many were financed.
2,785,156
I sometimes enjoy reviewing the chain of title to see who owned and when

Will this is a very interesting question, a quick Google search made my head spin I think the only one that can answer this is the HUD with help from the Census Bureau, and still it would be a guess. Let us know if you find out.
