Oh what tangled webs we weave .... shameful.  Someone needs to muzzle the neighbor. 

I've never had a neighbor sour a buyers decision to buy ... just the opposite .. it made them feel more confident in their decision to purchase.

Hi Paul - We've had a couple of buyers cancel after researching the HOA, and we had to agree with their decision.

  My buyer drove back to the quiet peaceful neighborhood on Friday night.  It was party central.  Changed his mind!

Yes it has just like a busybody neighbor can come out while you are showing and kill the sale. i guess it is best to know that early on.

Sounds ugly! I haven't had that problem but have had buyers who were really excited about a house but after spending time in the neighborhood moved on. And in a couple of situations I recall buyers had talked with several neighbors and that helpe them make a positive decision to buy

I haven't really had this situation come up. Thank goodness for that. But we are mostly rural. Our neighborhoods and subdivisions aren't what you think of as neighborhoods and subdivisions. Neighbors can be few and far between in some cases. 

I've never had a deal soured by a neighborhood review (assuming you mean a blog?).  Busybody neighbor, oh yeah.

Neighbors have definately killed sales over the years. They dont always have to be reviews and can be from their upkeep or their actions

Now that is just sad, and knowing that is a great topic to discuss with your buyers!

Sounds like a listing I had! This busybody knew when the listing was expiring so she, she thought, could go in there and buy it without me, the listing agent. You should have seen her face when I said we had put the home under contract the eve of the expiration date! and for more than she was willing pay! Karma is such a b...

Stuff happens.  I encourage prospective buyers to talk with neighbors, drive through at different times, visit area business and more as part of their decision making process.  Obviously, it's better when it happens before they make an offer.   

That has not happened to me

and there's not much you can do about nasty people who are only thinking about themselves ...

We have a lawyer who teaches our continuing ed classes that always refers to the neighbor with the cake who can't wait to share news. He prefaces sentences throughout his class with - you're about to get another cake.

I've had two - when a neighbor told the prospective buyers about a suicide in the house (they didn't buy) and a neighbor came over the morning of closing to tell the buyers that a little girl died in the backyard when she was accidentally hung from her swing (they did buy).

Oh dear - unfortunaately, it comes with the territory - chalk it up to experience and move on.

Questions yes, but full regret no! Seems like some neighborhoods are home to naysayers!

See, there's always a story behind those 'words'.  Never had it happen but have witnessed a neighbor bash the hood a few times & I can never figure out why.

My own neighbor talked to some new buyers & the only positive she said was 'everyplace has it's problems'.  There is nothing going on but that's all she could say?

I hear these stories, but thus far it hasn't happened to one of my clients.

I've never had a nosy neighbor goof things up, although once a next door neighbor's carnivorous looking dogs chased of some clients who otherwise loved the house.

That is just wrong on so many levels...thankfully it has not happened to me...yet...

Amazing the amount of money that is stolen by the actions of neighborhood busybodies who cause sellers to reduce prices just to get away.

I had that happen once and the buyer ended up buying a house in another neighborhood.
