I didn't realize so many people get upset at the idea of flags for the 4th and being used in advertising. That's something I learned here in the Rain.
I used to provide little gifts for the different holidays but to be perfectly honest, I'm just too lazy now! And, my business has thankfully grown beyond it.
I do think it is a great idea for those wanting to expand their brand and reputation though.

I lived in a neighborhood where an agent put out flags every 4th of July. I loved it. She however didn't farm that area just did flags and it got her some listings, too.

I don't do this. I found out in a Q&A or blog yesterday that it's actually against the (I'm assuming) flag code. Now with that said, I've always appreciated it when the flag was placed on my lawn and I usually left it there for quite some time... that doesn't say much though, I had a mini pumpkin that was delivered for halloween one year almost make it to the following year's halloween. Thought it would have been funny to confuse the agent (his card was still in it)... but they didn't place them a third year.

It is not offensive to spear a wooden stick through a business card attached to a flag and put it in a lawn. If the flag is touching the ground then i am offended.

Lise Howe yes we used to do that for a number of years. When the market dropped we quit doing it and honestly just never thought about it again - until now. I 'farm' my A list and we're about to send out a fun summer ice cream contest newsletter - always a hit in our hot summers in Phoenix.

there are only a few very small farms here...... and it seems that those farm owners are the first to volunteer their help and support on the 4th for local activities....they are Veterans.... and they provide flags for the cemetery....

I don't farm; did in the past and didn't find it productive, just expensive. Flags were one thing I never did... heard too many complaints about it where agents did do this.

I just realized that one agent who has placed Canadian flags on everyone's lawn for the past several years on Canada Day did not do so this year. I did not like when that agent did this.

I don't do flags because so many people are offended beyond belief by this practice, especially when Realtors just stick them in the ground with business cards taped on the stem.

I do farm but no flags. There has been quite a bit of criticism of late, here, and elsewhere, about using the flag as a marketing strategy, as well as plenty of stuff online about it being illegal, unethical, and so on. Not sure what the truth is but I personally prefer to do other things, including my postcards and potentially newsletters.

OK .. now you are telling me how I can and cannot answer - gheez. What's in the AR kool-aid today?
I do not farm ... E.I.E.I.O.
You are free to farm as you choose ... now may I park? Mother May I?
Oh Please, Mother may I park ... I want to park and watch the fireworks.

Same agent delivered flags in our neighborhood for the 15yrs we were there. Never missed a year.

I would NEVER use the American flag to advertise myself. I'd sooner die.
I have given away lots of branded items, coolers, lake maps, pens, flashlights etc.
1,395,083
We did it once a few years back but never since. We also tried pumpkins for Halloween and hot cocoa for Christmas.
Instead of farming to neighborhoods, we send items of value to our sphere.

I used to do this, ran of out flags a few years back and found out there were still 5 agents in my neighborhood - I'm not giving them any ideas any more LOL

Nice question. - yuk, not my style.
I do not use noveltiy items in my farm area.
My focus is on things that will 'engage' the homeowner as often as possible.

When I lived in the house, every year someone was leaving flags. Sometimes there were up to 3 in the front yard. I never did it myself.

Lise Howe - no I don't farm. Though 4th July wishes do go to everyone in my farm....lol!

I wish I would have thought of that last month to get ready for July. Maybe there's some time left, although not much of an impact after the 4th.
