I'm thinking be where the people are...
I did a search for open houses in my city ( Virginia beach)
add an open house to movoto.com
add an open house to Zillow.com
add an open house to Realtor.com
add an open house to Redfin.com
add an open house to Trulia.com
and definitely your own sites and your social media.
Long term idea : I might consider starting a website called openhousesin(YOURCITY).com then put your listings.
or do the same with an open Facebook Group.
incidentally the phrase "open house Virginia beach averages 320 searches per month.

Your website, company website, your MLS, Trulia, Facebook, Google Plus, Twitter, Pinterest, Linked In, etc. etc. Everywhere you can think of.

Matt,
This is time for you to do some market research.
Beg, borrow or steal an open house opportunity.
Then ask those who attend how they heard about the open house.
Ask what tools, apps and websites they use.
Observes the technology they are using at the moment. It is helpful to be able to observe them as the drive up.
At the end of the day you will know what matters in your community and where to spend your money. Relying on marketers or those distant from your reality for guidance could prove expensive.
Market research is one of the five valid purposes to have an open house.

I have tried posting to Zillow, but that has not brought traffic. Open house signs and ads in the local paper work best for me.

Matt - I would agree with Debbie Reynolds and say everywhere you can think of. I know our MLS automatically posts to some sites, and if you can post once and syndicate to multiple sites, that would be best.

Post it in the board. It gets auto populated to all the name brand websites through listhub (with the exception of zillow in most boards). Post on Zillow and Trulia directly. With many open houses, I have only seen traffic from Redfin, Realtor.com and Zillow/Trulia. Zilch from movoto, estately, etc.

In Carlsbad, we do not see a great deal of success posting OpenHouse Events on line. Just well-placed street directionals work effectively.

In my experience, the best way to get people in was to place lots of OH signs in strategic places. I also used to send out invitations to neighbors. Not sure how effective the internet sites are for OH's; MLS is good.

When I post an open house in the mls, it is picked up by various other websites.

Shoot, edit, render, upload to you tube and make your show and tell full motion with audio captured at the property your open house on demand. No limited time to squeeze in and these are available round the clock. Your listings and area events that are the flavor of the community surrounding the properties for sale get toggled over and over and the gotta have it factor increases the traction to buy. Out of town market, tap into it by delivery with real video, natural audio that is 40% of the experience. And talk about SEO if wired right... whoa.

The local paper is always great for open houses as well as Z and T who do garner views

I don't do open houses, but you should post on your website, your mls and anywhere else your home is posted on-line that gives you an open house posting option.

Definitely what is listed here but I feel you would be doing yourself a disservice if you didn't post on craigslist as well. That just seems like a no brainer.
