I don't know if I would use the word unusual to describe the amount of foreign cash because to me investing in US real estate makes perfect sense (of course I understand what you're saying). I've been doing a lot of research on foreign investment lately and it is definitely on the rise. And it extends far beyond Chinese investors, although they are known for their more geographically concentrated investments. But Canada, Norway, Singapore, India, and a handful of others are the other heavy hitters in foreign acquisitions right now.

Not unusual, it's been common in our market for quite some time. Of course, many people think that just saying "California" as part of the conversation makes the rest of the discussion "unusual".

The majority of foreign cash seems to be focused on the coasts! Florida, especially Miami has been a big beneficiary!

I haven't noticed a change here and we even have a huge Korean Tire plant under construction and they are not investing for the most part.

No John, perhaps we are too far from the coast. I have yet to see a foreigner buying cash around here.

Out here, that's been going on for a LONG time. Several large corporations, some funded by the government, buying homes and turning them into rentals... then putting rental backed securities on the stock market.

I haven't seen it yet, but we are in our slow season. It would not surprise me that more will appear after our election and they test the political climate here depending on where they are from and where they want to live.

We have a lot of foreign investors, many who pay cash. This has not changed for years as the Greater Toronto Area is a premier destination for immigrants and foreign investors.

Someone has to buy up detroit and try to rebuild it. Could be Chinese investors have some business plans for the area! Haven't noticed a lot around here, but i know there are many foreign buyers/investors in Virginia area.

No, Oklahoma has not been a state for expensive purchases, but we do have forighn investors for rental homes. The majority of foreign buyers are in Florida, Texas, Arizona, California, and New York, and the sales are down nationwide. Check the report on realtor.org.

Those with cash are doing well, thse that need cash are having trouble getting it. The properties needing the most work are selling, but at a great discount. Those homes in good condition and good areas, sell as fast as i can list them for market value or even above.

Very hard to tell if they are foreign or not. My impression is many cash buyers are American citizens. Non US citizens interested in very selective municipalities. SF-Russian Hill, PA, new tall malls.
Will not see it in downtown Oakland, Pittsburgh, Richmond for sure....
