Kenneth,
You need to first look at what you are trying to sell and the demographics of the social media platform. For example: Snapchat is used primarily by teens to early 20s and Pinterest is primarily used by middle to upper income women over 40 (according to Hootsuite's training). Using snapchat to sell a $1m home isn't going to be as effective as Pinterest, due to the income required to sell the home.
With that said, it is also how you implement the marketing plan for that network (and it should be tailored to the specific network to be the most impactful).
Personally, I've found Active Rain to be the most useful with Facebook in 2nd place. Twitter and Pinterst tie for third and the rest have not been of benefit.

I echo what Ryan Huggins - Thousand Oaks, CA said. In the end, for me, by far my Wordpress sites and ActiveRain works best to promote my business.

Kenneth,
It really depends on your strategy as to which platform to promote on. The second part is also depends on your marketplace's psychographics (ie their personalities, likes and dislikes) as to where to promote. And one should check the psychographics and demographics of each platform they are promoting one. I would say the strategy is the most important.

It depends on your strategy and your target market(s). And what works in one marketplace for one person may not for someone else. ActiveRain is tops for me, then Facebook (my business page as well as the CRS Facebook page)

Active Rain is tops, and the posts are then shared on one of several FB business pages, LinkedIn, Pinterest, Twitter, and G+.

Here in AZ the best social media platform out there is the golf course and the 19th hole. Hubby and I have met more people and closed more deals in those venues than any other form of social media to date.

I consider ActiveRain as a social media platform and it has worked best for me in promoting my business. Through AR I can link posts to Google+, LinkedIn and Twitter. As far as FB, I use it primarily for personal connections although I do have business associates and clients as "friends" there and occasionally will post a listing or link an AR post.

It depends on where your avatar hangs out. We want to be in front of our avatar and since that is a baby boomer we hang out on Facebook mostly.
I use Twitter for linking and promoting content, a lot, and it even landed us a couple of referrals and clients.
Pinterest is my next one I want to promote on, I use Pinterest in our marketing but not to the extenst it needs to be utilized.

Mostly wordpress and the "Rain" for real estate seems to get the most calls on a listing.
