Um, Susan Emo ...  I beg to differ my friend.  My riding mower has a headlight and it's very strong.  It also has a beer holder and a seat belt, because I GET DOWN when I mow!  

I think there's a reason mowers don't come with headlights!

My husband has had to do it from time to time. His reason was there wasn't enough daylight for him to get around to it. Maybe that is your neighbor's situation.

My neighbor starts mowing his just before dark but it is really dark before he finishes.  I don't get it either 

I prefer to do it during the day. That is the few times I do mow the lawn. Usually my boyfriend does it. I would like to think the day time is better so you can see any obstacles that might come up...you know like a misplace hose or dog tie out.

I think the bugs are more likely to get you in the dark. No bennies that I know of.

Perhaps is it s moisture issue, or he is just too busy during the day.

I hope he has an electric mower so that there is less noise.

Probably just less heat and bugs. if the mower has lights, it shouldn't be a problem. We cut and bale hay in the dark sometimes but it's usually just to beat coming rain storms.

Early morning and later evening are popular times in our area. It's cooler.  I wouldn't mow in the dark, could be dangerous. 

Hmm, sounds a little tricky if it is truly dark. Cooler? Maybe. No other time? Doubtful.

No benefits to the lawn at all. 

I have no idea... I have never mowed a lawn in my life and don't intend to start any time soon, night or day. We have lawn service and they come in the day.

Dusk or pre-dawn when it is cooler might be good times for some.  Not my hubby.

I say no at any time David. I was forced to do this as a kid and now I pay someone who really needs the money to take or mine.

I think it is all about being a good neighbor.  I would not mow my yard in the dark, because it woud be after 9 pm .  That's too much noice for that hour.

In CA 95% residents do not mow our lawn. Kids rather play Pokeman Go than doing any household chores.

As long as you have good headlights on your mower and the noise doesn't disturb anyone I say mow when the spitrit moves you!

Probably not too wise if you live in certain cities, towns, suburbs, communities, or neighborhoods.  Seems nothing irritates someone more than hearing an early morn or late evening running lawn mower or hedgehog.  Better to be respectful of others. There still is something to be said for Peace and Quiet.

David Landau - now there are few people who would do the things differently. I do not see much of a benefit there - or at least I am not aware of.

Watering is better at night, that much I know.  Never heard about mowing in the dark though.

Whatever works for the person doing the mowing. It is not something I would do.

Maybe he is taking medicate that precludes him from being in the sun?  Trust me, those warnings are real!  LOL

Interesting, I have a neighbor in CT that does the same. We always fear for his safety as the property is not level. In fact, his little Deere once flipped, but luckily without injury to the driver, he managed to jump out. That did not change the practice of mowing in the dark. I don't get it either.

cooler is about all I would think

One night a few years ago, maybe 10:00 or so, we heard a lawnmower and looked outside. Our neighbor had strapped a flashlight to his lawnmower and was mowing in the dark. I'm sure it was because he works long hours and it's cooler in the evening, but 10:00 is ridiculous. We have enforceable quiet hours in our neighborhood.

Sounds a little risky for animals out at night and rocks that you can't see, though I suppose if your neighbor isn't going up or down hills it's ok . . .  yes, I'm thinking it's cooler and the humidty level is lower David Landau.  Maybe waiting for a weekend sounds safer, though I realize people do work shifts, and weekends!

Hope he has a good light out there, that could be dangerous. Especially in mine because we have 3 dogs that eat a lot. But seriously, that noise would drive the neighbors nuts at night.

Not my cup of tea, mostly because of neighbours.  And if my neighbours were 1/4 mile away, I would have a lawn tractor (with headlights) instead of a mower, lol.

It allows your lawn to recover a bit before the scorching hot sun hits it the next day.  If you want an analogy, just ask any female if she'd rather shave her legs while outside at 2:00 PM with heat & sun or at 8:00 PM with cooler temps and no sun.
