I've seen courses for a real estate salesperson license of around $100, plus the license fee of $50 and the $15 for the written exam. So becoming a real estate agent is not that expensive (and your numbers seem to be about right). Once you are an agent, there will be fees to use your MLS - in my area that's about $428. Then there's Errors & Omissions which varies based on what your company does or doesn't pay for - let's say that's about $400 per year. Then there is the fee to have the lockbox access. That's about $115. Then there's all the other stuff you might have to pay for your office. There's software you may or may not need. There's a camera and smart phone and required real estate apps. Don't forget about business cards and signs and giveaways and brochures and ......
Becoming an agent is not that expensive. Being one can be.

I took 4 courses & this one course guy charged more. I asked why? He said that his prep mirrors closely the actual questions. I asked how could you know that? His response, with a smile said...You will pass first time out guaranteed. I did. You get what you pay for. General knowledge or specific?

Seems low but I'm in IL. Count your blessing or get another calculator.
$150 license $59 cont ed just to re-up every 2 years.
I thought you had to be 'in a classroom' situation when you first got your license?

Next check on Realtor® membership, E&O insurance, brokerage fees, advertising and more, in Wisconsin it adds up to another $2000

Each state is different - can't really comment but it seems low. But once you are licensed that's when the real expenses start mounting up with MLS fees, NAR, etc.

It does seem low but the real estate educational field is very competitive. Most new agents are shocked how expensive it is once they actually become licensed!

It has been YEARS since I got my license and paid fees, and luckily, do not remember.

The Internet knocked the course prices way down in Florida.
All I pay now is $70 license renewal every 2 years to the State, plus a $24.95 online continuing ed course.

It varies by State.I wold love to know the name of this school. I live in Pa.The others have given you good advice.

The license fees fee is correct; I have a NY license, but that was via reciprocity with CT, so I didn't have to take the course since I already did in my state. Seems low.

I'm as far away from NY as you can be and still be in the continental US. Kat has you covered.

Don't count on it being this reasonable when you sign up with a Broker and get started in this business. Under capitalization is the biggest threat to people first coming into this business.

Sounds like a bargain to me - especially the rate for the first two years! But just wait until you have to write a check for your local Board dues!

Passing the exam is the last time you will likely say that fees for our business are too low. Good luck. Choose wisely.

That's getting the license. Then you need to join a brokerage, NAR dues, MLS dues, and the list goes on.

you'll be missing the low fees, if you wait until they raise them!!! jump in....

Ask the school about their pass rate. Check them on Yelp. Check their Facebook page. See if they are on Google reviews. Basically, do your homework. A $99 preliminary education course is very cheap. Perhaps it is a good course, but perhaps it is not. For online-only education I would expect another $100-150 for 75 hours, but like I said, maybe you've found an excellent promotional rate or just a school with a good education trying to get started or attract new students. Just make sure you aren't signing up for a barebones course with a low pass rate.

I can't comment on your course fee. However, I looked at the NY licensing application form and it does state that the 2 year license is $50 and the written exam is $15. Thus, it does not seem low but it is the amount currently charged by NY.

Those do seem like low fees. Contact your state real estate commission to make sure your course is certified.

Seems extremely low. But I'm sure you have much more fees, something like fingerprint/background check, all sorts of memberships, insurance, etc.

Whatever it costs to get started, you'll find out it costs quite a bit to be active. I figure $2K/year here in NC, even if you don't sell a thing.

I can only speak about Pennsylvania even though I had NewYork license in past. Good luck

Wow - considerably higher in AZ! Here we need 90 hours, and I went to a Real Estate School, which was $500. Everything else is added on at an additional cost. Was not astronomical, but was not cheap, either. Are the 'dollars' you are quoted legit, do you think?
