At one time I spoke to a couple of real estate coaches just to find out more about what they offered. (It is never about hiring a company, it is always about the person).
I learned that I knew more about the business of real estate than they did and I could have qualified to be their coach.
Seriously, no one can "help" you get started...the only thing that they can do is recommend ideas that you can find on the internet. The only other thing that they can do is try to keep you motivated and on track...if you need someone to do that, you are already in an uphill battle.

I'm going to have to agree with Barbara Todaro and Ron and Alexandra Seigel on this one.

unless you're "fresh off the blocks in real estate" you should not need a coach....

Write a list of your goals and the areas that you need help with. Review the top real estate coaches online and go to one or more of their free or minimal fee events. Typically they are Tom Ferry, Brian Buffini, Verl Workman or just Google Real Estate Coaches.
If you get something out of this go for it. Many will say coaching doesn't work...they might be right, but unless you try it you will never know.
There is not one size fits all in coaching...unless you try, you'll never know.

Diana,
I tend to agree with Barbara Todaro . What I would invest in is a brand, a brand strategy and defining your marketplace and niche. A

Hiring a coach doesn't equate to getting a fast start. Market yourself and get appointments.

GET A FAST START!
Now Diana, that is a great idea!
My suggestion would be to hire someone with a complete package. That usually means a company. A company with coaches AND systems.
Where the wheel comes of the wagon is when the agent can not define their business. You can not just say 'I'm a business owner" and make it real without knowing if you are selling sneakers or bagels. The same is true with real estate. Define your business.
THEN a coach can guide you through developing the strategy, system and implementation to get you off to a fast start.

Make a list of all the things you did at your last real estate brokerage and then starting on #1 ... get going. You don't need a coach. You know what to do. You've already been there and done that! Best wishes to your Success! You can do this!

Diana Lipton I think you would be better off getting back to basics and start networking. Unless you need coaching and accountability, you will more than likely be doing the same thing.

You may want a mentor more than a coach. A mentor from the firm you go to will allow you to Shadow them while learning the area and customs.

I've never been a fan of these coaches - as I have not had a positive experience
Seems I always know more about the industry then they do
I would get on a team and use their resources and mentoring

I am 100% with Mike & Eve Alexander on this. I feel real estate coaches and coaching is a joke ... they just take your money and laugh their ass off as they deposit your hard earned money in their bank account.

List activities you love and find groups around you doing them. Create a Sphere of Influence you enjoy hugely and work it lovingly. Best wishes!

Check out Tim and Julie Harris. I have not employed them, but I do listen to a lot of their webinars, and they have some great things to say.

The CORE changed my business completely! I HIGHLY recommend them. I'm happy to have one of the coaches reach out to you. I'm still a student and feel strongly that you always need a coach in business. Coincidentally, I just had lunch with a former Portland agent!

Though I am likely not a coachable person, I do know of a few who gain a lot from theirs, talk to Thomas J. Nelson, Realtor and Praful Thakkar , they may be able to offer some good insight here.

I'm with several others. If you want, just send me a few hundred bucks & I'll call you first thing in the morning to give you a pep talk. You likely already know much of what a coach can teach you, and if not, it's all easily accessible online. Coaching is more about motivation and accountability --- generally overpriced motivation & accountability, from what I've seen.

Coaching is hellishly expensive. I'd attend some free local seminars and do free webinars on line... there are so many. If you're not a new agent, you know what to do... you just need to do it in a new place. Most coaching is pretty formulaic and it's not like they will help you really conquer the Portland market, itself.

On the national level Tom and Mike Ferry come to mind. I've never used a coach so I cannot give you any good feedback.
