no one hires anyone without interviewing at least one more agent....let that agent be me so you will know what you should be getting from your friend... and if the friend does not do that marketing, he/she can add it to your marketing program....
and speaking of programs, I will share mine with you and you can share it with your friend.... interviewing me will be of great advantage to your friend....
(the main purpose of any phone conversation is to close for an appointment...not closing for a listing!!)
so, would you like to meet tomorrow at 1:00pm or is 2:00pm better?

Chances are the family friend is going to get the listing if they do list. But Richard Weeks raises a really good point, especially if things don't work out.

"Would you cooperate with selling agents?" Get your foot in the dor. Next question should be, "May I make an appointment with you to visit your home to see if it might fit the needs on one of my many buyers?" It is all about personal contact and getting the FSBO sellers to think twice about you

Well, they may not trust their friend all that much if they're still going it alone.

I will not disparage the agent. I will however suggest that they see what I can offer and if it is right for their home selling situation.

Many good answers. Varied in my response with the conversation, but basically ask to meet with them to show them the advantages I may offer over others whether it be family or not. mark

I would wonder why they didn't originally go with their 'family/friend realtor' to begin with, though I would not ask that question Iva Sarnova! I would wish them Good Luck on a quick home sale - and let it go at that. I'm wondering if they think they know more than their realtor/family/friend, and that is why they are a FSBO, or there is no realtor/family friend.

I'd try to show my value, and invite them to reach out should things go south

I see if they are working with agents, and find out what show instructions are in case I find a buyer for it.

Offer any information you can to show you can be of better service; don't push it.

That is great but sometimes it is wise to have someone else sell it for you!

I would say it may be best not to hire friends during a real estate deal. They may not work as hard as me.
3,405,895
There are many great responses here. I would ask what that family broker friend is doing to help them sell FSBO? If not, why not? If they are not helping ... then I would offer to help.
5,960,730
I would say in our market - are they full time, do they know how brisk the market is, and what to do with multiple offers.

The first thing I would have thought is "Well, is your family friend real estate broker the reason you want to FSBO?"
I'm not sure what I would have said though.

explain that it is better to not use a family friend who is a broker using all the reasons included here

May be just a way to get you off their back. Each one is different. Often they distrust realtors or their family friend.

"It is great to support family! Does your family member work locally? If not, would they consider a referral fee? Keep me in mind for the future if you have any problems or need a second opinion. We will be here for you!"
