I am diggin the idea of it. The Tesla team is so cutting edge and forward thinking.

I have a friend with a Tesla.  She let me drive it.  We were just discussing the technological possibilities the other night.  We are way behind on solar useage from where we should be for cars, homes and buildings.  It's about time!

Yes, but they are not new, they've been around for years in development and they will be at market by next Summer. And of course Solar City has been in operation longer than that. There was a great documentary on them last year.

No I haven't heard about them - thanks for posting. Solar panels will have their place regardless as there are applications other than roof top. But if the solar tiles are more affordable than panels, I would imagine the panel biz will at least take a hit.

These have actually been around for about two years now from other providers.  I looked into them about a year ago as my roof is getting near the end of it's life.  I like them better than the panels, which I think look like absolute crap 90% of the time.

Also looked into solar roadways.  That's a super cool concept!  Only one company doing those that I'm aware of.  Still in the protoype stage though.  Couldn't get them for my driveway replacement.  :(

It sounds like innovative technology that will eventually replace the older methods.

I have tossed the idea around in my head for a long, long time. Leave it to Elon to bring it to fruition. I'll be watching!

The solar roof shingles have been around for about 15 years...at least. I guess the tiles are the next stage. I hope they catch on more than the shingles. I'm sure they've become more efficient. I think this is a wonderful idea for people to consider.
