The games are today. We thought we had awakened into some parallel universe but the NCAA decided not to compete with NFL yesterday, plus some of the games are on NFL fields, so there were scheduling issues.

Don't watch much TV, particularly sports, but I have heard the NFL is losing a lot of viewers this year. Maybe because athletes are more focused on making political statements than scoring touchdowns...

I believe it has something to do with blue law? The New Year's Rose parade has also been postponed to today.

Yes I did.
Now is the time to compel college football to be a separate business enterprise. Pay the athletes, make insurance available and have no association with the charade currently being presented to the public that supports the exploitation of those athletes.
As you and I noticed, ESPN was the only portal for those games leaving the taxpayer, a major source of college support, left out of the equation.

I din't since I don't watch college football since my alma mater got rid of its football program 50 years ago when I was still a freshman. I believe there may be games to day.

Peter Mohylsky - frankly, I did not know this is a new year tradition....
I need to learn more about the sports in the US.

The reasoning I heard was that so people could attend church (aka they wanted as many eyeballs watching so they could sell advertising). The rose parade and bowl were delayed a day to the second as well. Very strange.

The Rose Bowl has a Never on Sunday policy -- maybe the others do as well.
