Don't use the widgets from sites like Zillow and Trulia. They are no follow backlinks that will benefit Z and T, but not you.

Smart people have already hinted at the reason to avoid these widgets.... speed. People like me will not wait and move on to a faster site!

There are lots all over the place - interest rates, Zill garbage and more - however, you may want to be careful because of they change your profile is going to look like it's missing something
KISS - Keep it simple sweetie

I would steer away from them unless you see something on someone's AR blog that you really like and feel would add value. They tend to slow down the load time and AR does not always respond well to them - they may never load - unless they have fixed that issue. And see what Fred Griffin has to say, too!

They do slow your loading speed down and anything that you want your consumer to see can be put in your signature area. You want to be sure to send them to YOUR website, YOUR Facebook page, etc. - not outside links that don't help you keep them tied to YOU!

Years ago, people would run widgets here and it would slow down many blogs.

Those no longer work. I used to put widgets in my right hand corner of my profile but since the upgrade it no longer works. You can add videos there if you choose by resizing them.
Don't put a Z widget anywhere please.
It doesn't slow down AR but obviously they are blocking them for some reason.

As others have already written. TMI in blogs backfires.

I can't say I have a strong opinion one way or another. A very limited amount of widgets is probably ok.

when I first started writing blog posts, I was told that widgets are a distraction.... and you should definitely keep away from anything that strengthens Z and T

Avoid them.
- Many direct back to zillow's site or other places.
- Many slow down your blog.

Nathan Gesner - if the widget sends the consumer to your site, perfect. If not, just don't use it.
Market Leader widgets are okay, I think.

Don't use them. They slow you down and my readers might not have the patience to wait around.

See if your webiste has a widget you can copy and use. This will drive traffic to your personal website when used.

Don't use a flexIDX widget. That thing bogs down the site and constantly has a javascript timeout error.

Lots of great comments here. I am not a fan of widgets ... the only one I use is the RealBird property widget.

I wish ActiveRain let you use IDXBroker widgets. They are pretty lightweight javascript widgets, but for some reason they only allow other types of widgets.
