In jeopardy, yes, but not in the immediate or near term future.  Home ownership needs a revival for our economy to work as it should - - killing the deduction would put a huge dent in that revival

Yes, they have been trying to whittle that away for 15 years now. I'm afraid that it might get closer & closer to happening with the deficit rising.

It would be a major change to eliminate the MID. I don't think is on the agenda. We have NAR as the number one lobbying group in DC. And MID is probably the most popular deduction in the country. It would take a lot to eliminate this.

Taxpayers can only deduct mortgage interest in very specific situations in our great nation.  I have not seen anything that there are any plans to change the rules on this issue at this point.

I don't think so, for the near future. However, I think everything is on the table with Trump, so you never know. It would hurt the RE Market, as the  incentive to own would be less.
