Welcome aboard Erin. The best advice I can provide is to become a Rainmaker (so the public can see your content) then develop a blogging niche and become the local expert on that topic (i.e. subdivisions, 55+, homes with pools, etc.). The more you blog the easier it will become too.

Also participate on a consistent basis by asking and/or answering questions, commenting and writing posts.  Participating in contests(see the link at bottom of the page "Explore ActiveRain") is an opportunity for additional exposure and more points to move you toward free membership.    As far as mistakes, I can't imagine anyone here who hasn't made more than a few -- follow the Golden Rule and dive in.   

Read lots of posts and follow those people that interest you. Check out ActiveRain University - lots of great learning there. Comment and participate as much as you can so we get to know you. Make sure your profile is complete. WELCOME!!

Welcome Erin, Start reading and commenting and then join in and write and post your own blogs. You don't need to worry about messing up. Be sure to visit the ActiveRain University as it has a wealth of learning and how to get off to a great start.

Welcome!  A lot of the content is in the page footer.  Leaderboards, contests and most importantly the University.  That's where you'll find loads of info on blogging and templates for blogs too.

Other than that, get out there and don't be shy.  Expect your first blogs to be "meh" as you get used to it and build your voice.  After a few weeks/months (depending on many factors) you'll get the swing of it.  Don't expect the phone to start ringing tomorrow, it'll take time.  Other than that, ask away and keep your eyes on the Q&A section.

Mistakes??? OH NO!!!!

Remember, this IS social media.

It would be a good suggestion to understand you are where each of us has been, looking at the screen, hesitant to hit that 'post' icon.

However, that fear that lingers is soon shown to be the most encumbering of all mindsets and turns people into the opposite of courage.

Courage is the unwillingness to conform. Such courage has been expressed in EVERY social movement of history. "I will not bow before the rulers." And one person at a time, the cost was tallied, and change is realized. Some pay a high price.

Stop worrying about mistakes and let your voice be heard.

This is an industry in need of disruption. A few eggs will need to be broken to make the omelet. The choice is yours.

Who to follow will depends on that for which you thirst. Instruction, inspiration, vision? When the student is ready, the teacher will come.

AR is an incredible place. But it all begins with the willingness to be vulnerable and clicking that 'post' icon.

Mistakes is part of human nature. Knowing how to fix some mistakes is part of being a professional. Accepting the error and moving on. As far as making mistakes here in Activerain we all do. The trick is the difference between making a blog public and just for Activerain members..when you are not sure of what you are writing , make it  for members only, otherwise just take a dive.

 The easiest thing to do is to look at the front page posts. These have been picked as worthy enough to share with everyone. Over time you'll see who has continually good content for your areas of interest. Following them means it will be easier to discover more. Also- the search feature is good. Very often I've come across just what I needed.
