But they will allow FSBO's to continue manual entry of their houses. This is another step forward for Zillow, and another setback for NAR.

It think it's a backhanded way by Zillow to try and force mls's to syndicate to them and I can't really say what I think in such a public forum!

I try not to worry about things I can't control. It may help with some of their incorrect data. Zillow is a great portal, but the bulk of their business is built on MLS data. If that ever goes away, they will be out of business.

As they own it it is up to them.
As to the errors for so many years, it was partially agents fault for not updating the information of homes they imputed.

This a fight for control of the data and Zillow needs all the MLS data. As they said in Highlander, there can be only one.

Hmm, earlier this week we read the 'darkside' was going to eliminate manual entry. geessh.
Discounting manual entry. One must first understand the authority hierarchy of the data they receive. Will a manual entry for 1800 Pennsylvania Ave be overwritten by a matching address feed from the MLS, agent franchise, tax authority or other source?
I would PREFER stopping syndication to the darkside and manually entering listing into the darkside and brand the crap out of it. The MLS won't allow this. Maybe the darkside is going to again prove they are smarter.
Once on the Internet, always on the Internet. And it was/is your stuff!

I find that it will most likely not impact me. I use RealBird and as of now the CEO does not see this impacting thier ability to syndicate to Z. Worst case, the majority of my listings start out as pocket "FSBO" listings anyways, so no issues here!

Dorie Dillard - this should help them 'correct' the data! So now accuracy will be 50% from original 30%....lol!
So now accuracy of data on Zillow will be up to 50% from original 30%....lol! (just kidding!)
Not to forget about those FSBO who can still play with this site, the way they want!

I am hopeful those whose information is still syndicated (as MOST of those in my MLS are), is more accurate as a result of them discontinuing manual entry.
I actually got a call last week from someone on a house that is listed on Z as active this week - it SOLD ONE YEAR AGO! They have got to figure the data feed out - especially when properties go under Contract or sell.

It is a way they can "control" others by forcing mls to comply. Our MLS made a switch to allow the agent to include and keep a listing off such sites

Maybe it was a step in the direction they now seem to be taking, they are test marketing allowing homeowners to now list without an agent.

I've never spent a dime with zillow...but their presence is undeniable. It is funny how the agents of this nation provided the content for this company to grow/flourish and now they are putting it right in our face with "instant offers".

There is an mls that feeds listings to Zillow called My State MLS (www.mystatemls.com) which allows listings anywhere in the U.S. It's easy to join with instant on line sign up.
1,706,727
Our MLS stopped syndication to Zillow three years ago. However, they allow the brokerages to opt-in if they choose but all their listings must syndicate. Since I own my brokerage, I have opted NOT to syndicate. However, if a seller specifically requested it, then I would manually add it. After the listing sold, I would remove it and all the photos. Since I will not be able to manually delete the photos anymore, I will continue NOT to syndicate. I will explain to sellers that it's NOT in their best interest to syndicate because of corrupted data appearing on Zillow. Given that I rank on page one of Google for Franklin TN and most every neighborhood in my market, I don't see this being a problem for my sellers.
