I think it works better to give information and then allow them to go to something else for more info than the click bait

No clicking, no contact info, no interest . . . I am desensitized.

Depends on the quality of the bait.

I went through the steps for one last week, just one screen and confirmation email though.

then after getting the bait, I sent an email to let them know that I did not appreciate the game and would not be dealing with a company that required this game.

Clearly the guy was sold on the process and did not understand why I would not enjoy playing this game that was working so well for him.

His address is now marked as spam in my throw away gmail account.

 I get about two dozen DM tweets per day, and about 3 dozen emails per day, offering me something for free.   Delete without opening.

I immediately cancel my visit to pages and sites when this occurs. I suspect this tactic comes more out of frustration with the noncommittal nature of web-surfers.

That kind of crap does not fly with me.  I'd have clicked off after the first hook.

Not my type of lead generation. 

I've seen this many times.  There's the upsell.  And if you do hit "X", then the discounted offer comes up.  Instead of Y for $20, because we've had a cancellation, we can offer it to you for $10.  But wait, there's more . . .

If I see this, I'm out unless it's something I really think I need.

I am not a good fisherman, so no.

Delete, delete, delete!  No click-throughs from me unless I know the person who is sending the email and they are recommending something that they love.  

Annette - If I didn't get where I wanted to be after the first click, I would be gone. This hitting submit, then getting to another page where you have to hit submit again does not work with me.

I don't require a phone number on my site but do require an email and name (they can make one up) to get the home searches. If I get the phone number it is a serious prospect.

I hear "Hooking" is the oldest profession... followed by divorce attorneys and realtors.

I've had one or two of those that I've seen.  I usually put in bogus info.  Give me my free cookie but don't harass me.

I see it all too often.

I have not seen that. So after initial registration they are required to give more information the more information they want to receive?

This tactic is nothing new, been around  for years

I have not experienced the layers you describe in "hooking" but I do see many calls to action with "lawyer on" - name & email.
