Yes, on one framing crew 7 legal immigrants have gone to Canada. This could wreck the building business and anyone who thinks Americans will work this hard for those wages are delusional.

Not on my business, but immigration is a huge issue in the church, and many church organizations are gearing up for a big fight over this.

Not yet, but now i am afraid i wont be getting new siding on my house this spring. None of the so called "americans" want to do the work, i tried to hire american but they dont want the job. The construction industry will be coming to a standstill which will eventually affect my market. Sad!

I imagine so but the required $500,000 can not buy anyone not even a condo.
The median homes in our area is over $1,000,000 for single family homes.
Cities like Los Angeles, Miami and New York got a problem. More immigrants than native born Americans. So many illegals no longer stand in front of Home Depot they hide inside churches. All churches are full.

Just people leaving sanctuary cities due to the increased crime and decreased enforcement.

Illegal Immmigration is completely different than legal immigration.
Many members of my wife's family have immigrated to America from India. All of them went through Legal channels.
There are Legal Migrants working in Florida in the groves, on the farms, and in the construction industry. My brother, a building contractor in Jacksonville, employs a number of them.
For those who want to come to America legally, I welcome them. For those who come illegally, arrest them and deport them.

I have many immigrant friends and most aren't too worried about it, they're more worried about how specific their Visas are. Some are left with very few options should they want to change jobs or a career. I did have one friend ask if I thought it was safe for him to buy in the US and I told him absolutely.

Not affecting the business. However, I read a heart-warming story about a family of 11 from Syria who are trying to make a go of things after waiting 3.5 years to come legally into America. None of them have work or can find any is what I found disturbing...America needs jobs!

Some of the immigration issues we are facing in our market are not from south of the border.

Our great nation is a land of immigrants. We welcome numerous immigrants from across the globe each year. My market area is one of the top couple of destinations for immigrants in the nation.

I have seen some long term permanent residents leave the market and are now afraid to travel back home, because they may not get back here.

No. However, many undocumented immigrants are staying away from public places that include local businesses.

John Wiley - I know the total immigration population buying a home is much less!

It's not that Americans refuse to do the work. It's that employers would rather hire an illegal and pay them under the table and YOU would rather pay less for the job. I have never hired an illegal in my life and somehow managed to have homes built, roofs replaced, driveways paved, lawns mowed, and my house cleaned. The fact is, people want illegal immigrants so they can have their house cleaned for $8 an hour instead of $20 an hour. In other words, employers and consumers are the problem, not illegal immigrants.
I would like to see work permits for illegals that would allow us to bring in cheaper labor but legally. They could work in the country for a limited amount of time, maybe 12 months with a minimum 6-month break. Employers would be limited to hiring a certain percentage of immigrant workers. Income must be reported and immigrants must pay taxes. Any employer caught cheating would be banned from using immigrant employees for XX months. The second offense would be one year. Third offense and they lose their license.
That would be a start.

I am involved in home building and several of the subcontractors are concerned they or a family member may be deported. That tells me they are here illegally and need to get legal. They do good work but charge big prices too.

I worry about it because of fair housing. With the sentiment of the country worrying about imigrants it is just a matter of time before we here about a immigrant family being treated differently in a sales transaction which could potentially be a fair housing violation.

Nope. And I'm in Arizona. But I am too far north to be directly impacted. In 2005 we purchased a beautiful property about 20 miles north of the border, and we took a loss in 2012 because there was so much nonsense going on in the southeastern part of the state. Where a gorgeous ranch subdivision was imagined, the reality was trash, crime and a lot of fear.

I am not... the immigration issues are not those that truly impact real estate right now. A bit hard for illegal immigrants to provide the necessary paperwork and documentation to buy or sell a home.
