Jeff,

Thank you hand written notes, and no cards.  Personally, I think they are inappropriate.  It broadcasts, I am writing a thank you and I want you to do business with me, it not our style.  I just thanked someone for following on AR, and they sent me 2 page email of WHAT I COULD DO FOR THEM and how wonderful their business is, and I would be smarter than the average bear to send them business.  They have no idea as to what we do.  For me it is a royal turn off,  Maybe, it is the way I am drawn!  LOL A

I keep a stack on my desk as a reminder to send some each week. There is always someone that would like to hear a kind word or two. It depends on whether I include a business card or not. If I do it is more to trigger their memory of who I am.

I usually include a business card because I hand write and sign each one "John"

Since there are 10 trillion (as of the last census) Johns in the US, I just assume they may not know which John sent it, so I include a card.

If it's someone that I know would know it's from me, no reason to include a card, though.  I do write a lot of thank yous.

I used to send them all the time, after closings to the other agents, to clients, to vendors.  I've gotten out of the habit.  I honestly can't remembe if I sent a business card or not.  It may have been circumstance specific, but I don't know.  I used to send Happy Anniversary in your home handwritten cards and I did send business cards with those, but they were business related and asking to remember me if they or anyone needed help with real estate.

Ron and Alexandra Seigel make a good point on how some may take it.  I honestly don't think I'd care if a thank you card also included a business card, it wouldn't turn me off unless it was in your face like the 2 page email they got.  That's inappropriate. Business cards I am on the fence about, especially because the interaction may be business related, even if it's a thank you.

Great question Jeff Dowler

1. Yes weekly.

2. Yes, I include a business card.

3. Yes there are inappropriate times: birthday, holiday, sympathy i.e. any personal or life event where you are trying to be the "friend not the Realtor".

I do send handwritten cards regularly and I always include a business card. Its not necessarily for the person I'm sending the card to but, for them to pass along to a friend or coworker.  Never want to miss out on an opportunity.

Always send to clients, I am getting better at sending to others.   I include business cards unless it is for a personal reason, i.e. bday...  Can always create a generic card with a logo on the back to keep you top of mind...

Funny, I teach a class out our office and always remind new agents the importance of this.. Last week I got 5 thank you cards back and one new agetns included a lovely gift...   I was like awe, they like they really like me!

It is always nice to get a card in the mail..

Jeff - I may send hand-written notes and thank you cards, but don't do it as often as I should. It depends on how well the person knows me whether I include a business card or not. If they will not know me by name, or how to contact me, I may include my card. If they know who I am, then I would not include my business card.

I've received a few thank you cards for meeting with people or attending seminars lately.  Very nice touch.  No cards in them, but it's obvious who they were sent from.  One was branded.

Personally, my handwritting makes a doctor's look legible (they've had trouble reading mine, but I can read theirs) so I don't hand write anything if I can avoid it.

I can honestly say, I have never sent hand written note cards nor thank you cards to clients, vendors or others with whom I've met.... that was always too time consuming.... I was always a listing agent.... my referral network was strong and continues to be...I now refer everything to my daughter....
