I'm already offended by 'the old in real estate'. Sorry but my dementia stops me from commenting further.

Well, here's the conundrum... if you're not reading anything how can you apply what you learn? Why are they mutually exclusive?

Karen,
I agree with Nina Hollander . We both are voracious readers. We learn new things on a daily basis. We sift through them, and apply what is valuable to us and what we do as well as our interests. We both love to read. A

Karen,
My philosophy is: Whether you are reading or attending seminars, the key is to choose one or two primary ideas that you wish to incorporate into your business and ask yourself 2 questions:
How can I apply this to MY business?
When will I apply this to MY business?
... and then do it!

Yes at some point you need action. Many new agents plan but never execute.

If you did not read it how would you apply it!
Oh I forgot it is on a CD, tape or othet listening device so we do not need to read anymore!

The new in real estate is no different than the old in real estate. EXCEPT. You have less time to stick the landing when it comes to new techniques. If it's too complicated, you'll waste time trying to master it. The mistake is being distracted by the latest widget or made-up reveal. The solution is employing your instincts to discern what resonates with you and your goals. So much of success in this business is about emotional maturity and flexibility. A lifelong process.

I am really late to this question and see it has already been answered at least as well as I could.

Experience does say something, but still think we have to read and keep learning. We never will know everything.

I think it's important to get a solid foundation but it's also true that a new agent can get "analysis paralysis". At some point, you have to get your hands dirty and you will learn much more from experience!

Learning has to be put to good use to be worth anything. If you continue to hear it, see it and do nothing, what good is that?

I did not know that reading is ''old'', but it is true, I do not read( saving eyes) but I listen to a lot of great staff. But I agree, take action immediately if you hear a great idea or advice, otherwise, you'll probably will never implement that idea into your business.

Why is it that the "new" is to implement? What do you think we've been doing for all these years, reading and learning for shits and grins?
5,048,708
I like a combination of the two. You certainly won't get anywhere just by reading if you don't apply what you learn!

If you are not reading about AI, VR and AR, and neuro-science you won't have much of a future.

I am older than dirt. Still learning. Still applying. Still making a difference. I am back in college learning more higher education. What good would that do if I did not apply what I learn. What is the point in doing anything if we cannot or do not apply it and make the world a better place.

You have to learn in order to apply. But learning can also involve doing. Every day present opportunities to get better at what you do.

When one gets a degree, what to do after-wards spares no one. The degree must be activated, fine tuned and made into something useful. The learning curves demand & get respect while one adds "real life" to their resumes

Karen Jones Lewis, MBA, Realtor From you statement, it looks like you have to have some of the Old to do the New.

Bingo.... that's how real estate has always been though.... just go do it, after you've learned the basics.... you'll either sink or swim.... train as you go along....use a mentor for guidance....but go do it...learn as you go...

Learn, practice, practice some more. The amatuer practices until they get it right. The professional practices until they cannot get it wrong! And, keep reading!

I like to learn, use what i learn in my business. I am always ready to learn to more and always ready to apply what i have learned to help me in my rela estate business and or with my clients. This business is ever changing and you have to change when it changes.

You learn by doing.
You earn by completing.
You do neither warming a stool in the brokers conference room.
I could make a strong argument that a good plan for most agents is to not learn one new thing this year and act upon what they already know. Their business will grow as a result.

The biggest problem in the real estate industry is greed and agent ignorance.
Most agents know very little about the contract, the law, ethics and agency.
Advanced knowledge is power and something that you need daily. The more you learn the more you will earn.
