Looks like the mat has a pattern in it.  Possible for it to fall in there.  I'd also check the plastic outlet cover, could be hiding in there (on the plastic part).

Time for the listing agent to call the last showing agent with a wake up call!

That would be the first place to look ... then I would be calling the listing agent or her agency to alert them of the Missing Key! 

My first guess is the an agent is inside enjoying a hot bath and doesn't want to be disturbed.

Q: I'm curious, if I came to your location, can I use my supra to open it? Supras are the same, right? 

I do that with my glasses all the time--especially my reading ones. I scoured my office the other day looking for them and realized I had them on! I was holding the lockbox key contain as I showed a couple a gorgeous estate property. In the back was a gorgeous Koi pond. I bent over to take a look and angled the container down and plop! Key falls into Koi pond! All three of use couldn't find it! Turns out the agent didn't have a back up as the trust attorney gold her it was the ONLY key. Guess who paid to have the lock rekeyed!? Duh.

Unbelievable and tragic!

Nothing surprises me....well...most of the time.  

I guess the good thing is that now everyone who has read this will check under the mat and/or the flower pot in case the box is empty!

Sometimes agents can't figure out how to open those nifty little boxes. The boxes can act as a decoy.  Doing it the old fashioned way worked for decades.

Never had that happen EVER I have on several occasions had agents show a property and LEAVE with the keys in their pockets though.
