When I had a ceiling fan ... I did change direction.  Having a bird with full flight (no clipped wings) meant that the fan had to go.  Not worth the risk of an accident.

We seldom need to switch the fans in San Diego, they are 95% set for cool down summer mode. When I lived in the Bay Area I did switch them each winter and spring. Great questions BTW.

Fred Griffin I see the logic for my southern neighbors but living up north we only use fans in summer unless the home has cathedral ceilings which the majority do not in my area.  Thanks for tip
