We do have a new start up that serves a local areal The statewide newspaper is pretty thin and the city edition has no city news which could be why they are losing readers

There is a newspaper called Community Impact and it is free and has become increasing popular as it reports news about what is really going on in areas of Austin and road projections etc. not sensationalism! Objective writing!!

I was just lamenting this morning how pathetically small our local paper has gotten. They've slashed (I mean slashed) staff several times so they couldn't produce a decent paper if they wanted to.

Print is not dead, but video, lots of images, all the details online, in the clouds is what most buyers want. Still, never ignore the analog not digital in the audience and don't make them feel like dinosaurs for no Internet savvy mouse skills. In small rural areas, the paper is thin and regional consolidation of print works underway.

No. The newspaper industry has consolidated to one publication in the Tampa Region.
HOWEVER, many advertising papers bearing the titles of communities are flourishing. They are owned by the same company but appear os independent papers with highly localized information that would be difficult to call NeWS. However, these are the papers that DO allow advertorials. This is importan for business owners.
The official definition of a newspaper is a regularly published papar containing obituaries. I did not know that was the qualifying factor.

We have something called "The Acorn" which is published for each city and contains news pertaining to that city. I'm glad it gets delivered on the day I take my trash cans out. Once in a while I'll keep it so I can use it to start my charcoal chimney.

Just curious, what is the content of these publications besides ads? The RE ads are probably targeted at the non-computer segment.

There is a small group of newspapers that is targeting individual cities in our area. Definitely a local perspective with lots of photos of events and school activities. It seems to be attracting some readers and advertisers.

CA seems to be going paperless more and more.
My bride still loves the Sunday edition of the Union Tribune every week she's home for it, but other than the industry magazine and book, I read all my info online...including the UT.
