Very good question. I think writing skills are critical. The agent should be literate, grammatically correct and able to express important points clearly. I see horrifying verbiage in contracts. The more poorly written those are, the more exposure to liability.

I believe ability to communicate clearly, concisely is critical in any business situation. And I believe that communicating grammatically and with correct spelling also shows one's professionalism.

Being a scholar is not important but being able to clearly convey the wishes of the client is.

I think every real estate agent needs to be well versed with writing skills.... or that agent should have someone else write for them....

Not much. A REALTOR should be filling in blanks, not writing dissertations.

Agents with exceptional WRITING skills to often choose to exercise those skills and write too much. Then the fun begins.
Write concisely.
Write sparingly.
Remove everything not directly pertinent, critical or essential to this transaction or representation agreement.
The real discipline, like so much of life, is not the mastery of the wordsmithing craft but learning when to shut up. Failing to do so is when the fun begins.

You mean for offers? We just need to fill in the blanks.
For listing description - hire someone who writes well.

I think writing skills are important all around and particularly in negotiations. That might include not just vocabulary or intelligent concepts espressed in a literate way, but grammar as well - a single comma might actually change the meaning of a sentence!

Writing is a key element in communication. Communication is essential. If the skills are poor I feel it impacts representation in a multitude of ways.

I believe REALTORS® should stick to keeping their writing skills in plain simple English. Don't try to write in what you may think is legalese. Keep it simple so everyone can understand the discussion, etc.
