If we're smart, no. It makes no sense. Real estate is local and hyperlocal, and the result of attempting to standardize information across such a large expanse would confuse and misinform. But our industry doesn't tend to be that smart. LOL
PS. We already do have national listing services -- Point2 is one example.

We already have a national MLS.

What do you expect from the 'new thing' that is not provided by the Empire of Evil Intent or any of the national franchise websites.

Unfortunately, the products proposed and currently offered are not comprehensive lists of homes for sale but are managed, limited access portals controlled by NAR and its associations. 

What we need is a separation of the top five franchises from the rest of the industry. Then we will witness the democratization of the real estate business.

The problem may be too many different types of platforms being used across the counttry to consoldate. It would be nice, but the upgrades here in NH for a regional MLS are worse than when we had our own. It is like going back in time for technology

Considering how long it took them to consolidate the CT MLS I don't see it happening on a national level. 

It would be nice, but then they would likely just turn around and sell it to zillow or realtor.com or some similar outfit.

Anything is possible, highly unlikely though in these times.

At least statewide it would be nice. We are close here in California. But there are some holdouts. That means you HAVE to join their association to get on their MLS. And that gets very expensive.

I doubt while I am in business - there are enough issues even at the local and regional levels

The problem is people from California will take listings in Florida.

In a way, RPR kinda looks like a national MLS. They don't have much to do to make it more encompassing - in fact, a lot of information is curtailed.

 It's called Zillow.

bigger is not necessarily better.... I like what we have now.... at one time, we did not have access to all of MA....now we do... 

That would be helpful and maybe the fees would go down.

I heard a couple of years ago that RPR was being geared to be the base of a national MLS. We shall see.

Gosh... why not go global?  If we're going big, let's go BIG!

Boy Nathan; that's a very interesting question and I can see the pros and cons to this concept...

Realtor.com!  That's basically one right?  Everyone puts their listings there.

I don't see there being one MLS (and one software to rule them all).  It's painful enough dealing with agents the next county over putting in bogus information into the listings.

The next five years will tell the tale I think. The other thought is will there even be MLS systems?

NAR owns almost all mls teling people what to wear, how high.  They are almost there....

It will have to have three thousand fields to accommodate the idiosyncrasies of each market.

I'm sure we will, there is no point to have so many small different MLS. At least with state mls(s).

I have heard this for years, but so far, has not materialized.  RPR is way too generic, so if that is what will happen, it won't last.

I am not for it.  No telling what the fees will be.

Its possible...MA has a great application called The Find that links you to all of the MLS across the country
