I took my FAA Part 107 exam and got licensed. I fly a DJI Phantom 4 Pro, but mostly for fun. I don't usually shoot my own video or pictures, just because of the amount of time it takes to do it well. For $250 you can hire someone really great if you are doing video - less if you are just doing stills. My real estate time is worth more than that.
There is a tremendous liability if you do it commercially (which Real Estate is), or you use someone who does not have their license. It should be the first question you ask - "Do you have Part 107? if yes, please show me (or send me) a copy of your license". If they don't have it - don't use them.
If I were to buy a drone today, I would purchase the Mavic - much smaller than Phantom (which is one of the reasons I don't shot more of my own). The Phantom basically requires a really large suitcase.
As an aside, the Part 107 test is much more difficult than I expected. I took a class, but basically, you are taking the FAA pilot test without the required flight hours.
For some relaxation - Drones are lots of fun!

I hire a licensed FAA drone operator. There are too many liabilities, and for that reason, I just hire a licensed, insured professional.

We use drones to take aerial photos for our agents in the SF Bay Area. I'm not sure which one we use - but I will get back to you! - Tim

I have no luck with those. They usually end up in a tree or in a lot of pieces.

I absolutely hire that out! I don't have time to sell real estate and get my FAA license...not to mention, learning to operate a drone!

I would hire a pro to do it when I get the listing that warrants it.
Actually, I saw a neat one for like $69 that I was going to get only to use on the front of the house.

I do not, but there is a WIDE variety. It seems they all have the HD 1080p cameras... from the $150 amazon special to the $1000+ DJI drones. The differences I can see tend to be weight, runtime and added features (like following, GPS programmed routes, return to home, etc.). Some of the $150 amazon specials have had comments like "blew away in the wind" due to the lack of weight.

Not in a hundred years would I do it myself. I don't take any pictures of any type myself.

Byron,
You have to be cleared by the FAA in our state of CA. Many picture windows were broken, power lines cut...can you hear the lawyers coming to sue? Hire a professional The top photographers in town hire drone pilots who are licensed by the FAA to do this. A

Unless you are truly interested in flying a drone and exploring what's over the horizon without having to hike there, have fun. But as far as a Realtor seeking some difference over another--being a drone pilot is NOT one I'll be losing any business over. We have a fabulous photographer for our home shots. If the property is suitable, we'll also have him take drone shots. A drone shot of a neigbhorhood is why god gave us Google Earth/Maps! I've a coastal property which is going to take a very dramatic photo shoot as will another one with acreage. It's just too cheap to order it than to go through the whole process of buying, learning, maintaning, etc.

Liabilities. Most aerial fotos looks like crap on CA mini million dollar homes. Beach or lake homes I can appreciate it.
