My husband and daughter usually put ours up on Thanksgiving Day and took it down on New Years day. My daughter got married and move to KY. She was here to help put it up. She wasn't here on New Years Day. My husband said he was going to wait until she came for a visit to take it down. He was so busy when she did come home. As a matter of fact, he has been so busy including starting a new job that he just got ours down last week. That is the longest we've ever gone.

There are some homeowners that keep 'em up ALL year (lights, that is - I've yet to see deer and trees out this long past Christmas - that's just silly)! - Tim

Where were you? I mean what part of California. Because in my MIL's neighborhood is high military deployment territory and if someone in coming home after missing Christmas lots of families "keep it up" until their loved one comes home.

I saw a giant wreath on a garage - still lit at night - this week! I would be horrified if my neighbors left their lights up that long!

The very last day, in my opinion, is Epiphany - January 6th. The traditional 12th day of Christmas. If people still haven't taken Christmas decorations down in your community, it is either laziness or someone is ill. Perhaps - they want the Christmas spirit through Easter?

Welcome to the Land of OZ Debbie Reynolds - it is not uncommon for some folks to leave the lights up year round. We have a word for that but I cannot say it here

Where were you in CA? My neighbor has his on the top of his 2 story house still, at least they aren't turned on! A few blocks away a guy has a tree in his front lawn lit up all year long.

mine are put away the day after Christmas.... and they go up the day after Thanksgiving!!!!!!!!!!!

Debbie,
That is what makes California. And had you asked me, I would have told you where to have meals under $30, and still have good food. And the reason our gas is a $1,00 higher is because it all goes to all kinds of fandangled taxes, that were going to be there "temporarily" and turned out to be forever taxes...I have lights on my deck, not for Christmas but because I like them. They are sun powered and make me happy to see them...LOL A

Some communities have an actual 'date' where Christmas decorations have to be removed, so it might depend on how active and strong their HOA is Debbie Reynolds. I agree that it is not the weather! Some take down their decorations right after New Year's, or that first weekend after the Holiday.
