Oregon is working toward this as well. We do have city code changes to allow for it in our town.

I think my city is on board with it. I seem to remember something about it in the news a few months back. Won't see too much of it out here due to the postage stamp lots they've approved since the 90s. Maybe on older properties with larger lots (like the one across from me).

I'm not up to speed on this issue but I do know they have established a citizen task force to investigate and recommend all possibilities for creating more affordable housing, including local juristiction regulatory changes and streamling the permit process.

Many cities have adopted the ADU but with quirks and refinements which penalize the overall thrust of the initial ideas. In our area, ravaged by the firestorms of October, our City has changed set back issues plus it no longer requires covered parking or set backs from the street. There are two types of the ADU with the "junior" suites or units built into the current home's footprint. The "grannies" are the most popular and set backs and square footages have increased. However, our city STILL makes you pay big time for sewer hookup fees.

I'm not entirely sure, John DL Arendsen. However, I did read this article a while back exposing a "New Bay Area housing trend: Living in the backyard." - Tim
