Felix,

We happened to live here, and all the creeks have been dredged and cleaned and we still have a procession of trucks picking up mud from all the homes  and trees in the affected areas, etc.  Rained last night, the creek behind our home is fine and running perfectly.  They have sandbags in other areas where it may overflow.  What caused the mudslides was the flash flooding that let loose boulders and mud.  We are not anticipating flash floods this time although we are ready.   We need the rain

In Florida, we are always prepared for hurricanes.   Oil lamps and flashlights.  Ample supplies of bottled water, non-refrigerated food, propane for the gas grill, gasoline, ammunition.  Plywood stacked on the back porch, to board up the windows if necessary.

Always an important question, Felix Figueroa

I definitely agree with Joyce Marsh, Daytona Beach Florida - every region seems to have their own specific challenges and concerns they face.

We always urge the professionals we work with to stay in touch with their homeowners, especially after natural disasters and/or winter, and to reach out with any home repair/care/improvement resources they may need to ensure they are fully prepared before anything happens (and ready to tackle any residual aftermath). - Tim

Every area has their own worries. Ours are hurricanes but I can attest that we most definitely get plenty of notice and Floridians are prepared. We know the drill. Always have supplies on hand. We did have fires a few years ago because of the extreme drought. That was very scary for us. No matter where you live, always be prepared

Flash flooding is hard to prepare for just like it is hard to prepare for a tornado like we had this weekend. You just hope nobody is injured and property damage is at a minimum.

Being prepared is part and parcel of home ownership.

There are those things of such magnitude that no amount of preparation can alleviate  the ultimate danger.

The fight or flee decision homeowners must often make in calamity prone areas too often is confronted when the opportunity has passed. I am not one who flees. That may catch me some day.

Be safe my friend.

We had 10 minutes of heavy hail yesterday afternoon!  Pretty darn cool!  My yard looked like a snow field.  I'm out in Thousand Oaks, about 1.5 hours away from SB.  I was also on call for mudslides out here.
