In real estate and in life, accountability is a big test of character. If you can't be the grownup in the room, this especially is the wrong business to be in.

It is one of my pet peeves in anything in life! I have found that people respect you so much more if you accept responsibility for your actions and explain the steps that you are taking to resolve things. I really dislike when people point fingers at others and say it wasn't their fault. 

Real estate and all of life.  The lack of accountability and responsibility boggles my mind. 

The same type of people are everywhere.  I just focus on the positive.

I let it go in one ear and out the other. Folks that blame stuff on 'whatever' haven't figured the game of life and business out yet. Over the years a few of us have joked about this blame game - let's just blame somebody else as they seem to all think that will work out fine - lol - and it is so much easier then fessing up and saying - I screwed up. Own up to it, find a solution and move forward. Anything else? No......

It's one of my pet peeves in real estate and EVERY OTHER venue....!

Not only in real estate but in life generally! If you make a mistake own it. I see people make mistakes and then work harder on not owning it than owning it and letting it go. We all make mistakes just a fact of life.

Life can be a sea of pride and the many people sail on it too frequently

Drives me nuts in any aspect of life! 

Annoying.  If you make a mistake, admit and apologize.  

Best to avoid that game in any arena.

Owe it.  Fix it.  Period.

That is one of my pet peeves also.

Then SPRINT decided to engage in mischief and my calls  and mail and messages did not come in. I'm sure "I didn't get your message' sounded like an excuse to those who were disappointed.....but the reality is,

'SH** happens."

Chaos happens but we still need to be kind.

We know not the burden under which others strain.

Be slow to judge and quick to forgive.

    Put them on your "people to avoid" list.

Those kind of people annoy me to death... at some point adults and professionals need to know how to "own" what they do or don't do (and not just in the real estate realm). The dog ate my homework excuse is bad enough from kids...

No excuses here.  I always take responsibility.  Had dealings with someone who didn't this week.  Ugh.

What's the old saying, when you point your finger at someone else, you have three fingers poointing back at you.

We have become a society that just likes to blame others.

Ugh. I do not like anyone who plays the blame game or has an excuse for anything, in any area of life. On the other hand, I totally respect those who own up to their mistakes.

I feel that those folks do not 'see' that they have accountability and responsibility 'themselves' in all situations.  We are the master of our own fate, and make our own choices (no choice, is also a 'choice') Paul S. People that do that do it in all aspects of their lives, not just as real estate agents. Good for you standing up and fixing it.

I avoid them.

Best to fess up and move on. 

I don't like dealing with people who do that in business or in my personal life. Accepting responsibility for our actions -good and bad- is the ethical way to live.

My advice to that person; "Grow up or get out of my orbit"

Paul, I think it exists in every walk of life. 

The new leader of the blame game is Trump.

Maturity level is lacking. Be responsible for yourself & your actions.

Instead of an excuse flying out of their mouth - ask how to solve problem, not discuss it over & over.

When it is my fault, the blame game won't change it.

IMHO, the only blame I can bestow on someone, is the person I see in the mirror each day.

It's always best to own it and fix it.  People respect that.  Escuses and blaming just make you look weak.

Agents that blame others when it is very obvious they are at fault

If you cannot accept responsibility when something goes amiss you cannot expect kudos for lucking into being successful.

It gets old fast. I first try to prevent said issues. If issue arises, i solve said issue. I woudl rather look ahead then look back and blame.

Paul S. Henderson, REALTOR®,CRS, I agree! It is always the agent's fault when things don't go right especially with a seller. Overpriced: Agent's fault; Seller won't do repairs: Agent's fault; Long time on market: Agent's fault We could go on and on.

However, it the agent makes a mistake they should immediately own up to it and move on to get the job done.

I feel the same.

This is one of my pet peeves as well.. be an adult and take responsibility if you made a mistake... The other pet peeve is when a Buyer client requests to meet with me at a specific time to show them a property and they are LATE... If I can manage to get their at THEIR requested time why can't they?

Let see, I try to avoid crazy people, negative, complainers, blamers, and people who drop in on me while I am surfing.

I feel they should leave the industry, you need to own up to your mistakes.

I am not around those toxic people. You do not need to listen the whole complain. Politely remove yourself.

There are people out there who blame others for everything rather than looking at the "man in the mirror." This is true in every situation - even beyond real estate.

It is a pet peeve of mine as well but those type of people are in every walk of life and they can be very annoying!  

I feel they're not going to last very long.  People get tired of that type very quickly, and their negativity is often contagious - better to remove them than put up with them.

I think it shows small mindedness and an inability to accept the blame for their actions. 

Off with their heads.  Seriously, I find with Q&A you can see one after another AR member adding with humility where they struggle and looking for help when here it comes. Whatever the topic, two members distance themselves and say oh no. They never have that happen.  Different kind of pet peeve because it does not add to the conversation value. Should be providing examples that help, to share how you struggled and overcame but don't make it sound like you never ever had this or that situation come up when we all know you have if you've been around the real estate rodeo for a few market sessions Paul S.
