The day after Christmas, we drove to PA and picked up our rescue pup, Mia.  She had been in an Amish puppy mill, had tried to escape and was punished severely for her efforts. She eventually was rescued from the puppy mill, but was almost feral when the rescue group got her.  Now, just 3 months later, she is a very happy, albeit a little spoiled, girl.

my daughter and my grandchildren have two golden retrievers....Rocco and Roxie.... after the children lost their father, the golden retrievers were a Blessing.... wonderful dogs for grieving children.... I love those dogs....

An adult dog is already housebroken and you can see their personality...they just need a chance to love a human.

Adopt an adult dog...and for the least hassel, adopt a senior dog!

I have a grand-dog who is 11 and now dealing with bone cancer. 

My pet, Mikey is a cockatiel with dementia.  He is 24 years old. He spends most of his day in my kitchen drawer.  

I love that little guy - he is such a joy.

Yes, I know... I wrote an entire blog on this earlier today. No more puppies in our household... any new adoptees will be adult dogs and cats as they are harder to get adopted out.

Peanut was found in June on the streets of Plainfield, NJ, and was taken in to the Humane Society shelter in Newark. Coincidentally, Samantha the Wonder dog passed away at roughly the same time. We weren't ready to adopt until November and we found Peanut, next on the kill list. She has taken a few months to get used to who really rules the roost around here (hint: it's her).

We do not have a puppy or adult dog at the moment. Our last was a Siberian Husky rescue, Halo. She passed away a year and a half ago. Right now is not a good time for us to rescue another dog (we would get an adult not a puppy) but we plan to rescue several when we move to our next home in a year or two and we would definitely not get a puppy mill dog.

My Ray is flying high with the angels. He left for the rainbow bridge on March 11th. It's been a rough month for me. He was just shy of 13. I've gone to the local animal rescue, but not quite ready. It's going to be hard to find a companion as majestic and loyal as Ray.

Yes, we have an old puppy. He came to us from a high kill shelter in located in San Bernardino 5 years ago. When he arrived we were just going to foster him but he was such a nice dog we couldn't give him up. He was very sick and had been abused over his life, yet he was just so loving and still is. We don't really know how old he is when he arrived the vet said he was around 8+ yrs old so we are going with 13+. My wife volunteers with a dog rescue so that's he came to be ours. We also fostered a blind kitten who our dog fell madly in love with, we had to adopt him too. Unfortunately we only had Boo for a year but what a great year it was, we lost him to cancer. Every foster my wife brings home our dog is so kind to, he's never possessive about anything he just lets the other dog do as she/he pleases.

We have two.  One great dane adopted from the pound 10 years ago this month.  He turned 10 on Valentine's Day.  The second is a black lab who will turn 11 on Halloween this fall.  She just showed up at my office.... in June of this year it will be 10 years ago.  (her birthday is just an estimate based on our vet's best guess)  Their names are Glen (named after my hubby's favorite Scotch)  and Laney (named after my office because she showed up on the porch shot, burned and afraid and I needed to save her).  Both are very good protectors of my family.  Old and kind of lazy and less playful than previous years, but loved so very much.

They also love our two adorable stray cats.
