Depends on the network/way communication/ a personal preferences. I use it all. Some of my clients and friends really like bitmoji, so I have no issues to send them an animation text that makes them happy. I record short video for birthdays, create different posts crafted for specific networks, and post a lot of local pictures. I might do it wrong... but it is the way to learn, right? 

A mix of all, gets out out there for all to see and hopefully pick up the phone and give us a call.

I don't think it's vain but I've seen some agents market that way. They are the top of the heap, not the client. 

I like people with dogs like Candice has. I've know people who write here how they detest it. Stuffy bunch is what I say.

On this one FB group, we 'discected' a brochure from a fairly successful agent. She wasn't getting enough 'traction' on the piece. It was beautiful with her body taking up 50% lengthwise on the front. Not a thing was said as to what she will do for her clients. No call to action either. Just a big 'HER' & then a smaller team shot.  Snooze ........

I don't give any of this much thought... I stick with a relatively simple approach of using my photo for recognition purposes.

I've found these things more fun than a piece of marketing.  Items that are professional, I definitely use a photo.  I save logos for email and such.  Avatars and such are a good time but I spend little time on them.

It is so hard to keep up with all the tips and tricks. Photo is easy and helps people know more about you, I'm not hot on avatars, emojis or vague branding,

Logos have served me well.

Branding and Marketing are two different things. I do both.

Depends on how what you do fits your personality. I favor a simple approach but some are much more creative.

As you can see, I started to use my company logo. I own this brokerage and discovered more people recognized my logo than they did me. Now all my profile pics have my company logo. Given that the bulk of my business comes from the internet, it's important they see that logo on all my platforms.

I use whatever is suggested for the particular marketing/advertising venue - if I'm marketing a home or a community, it's about just that - not me. So, the home or community prevails throughout the marketing piece. 

I only have my photo, don't have that much time to spend changing it up.

I do think people gravitate towards using a company with a logo because it looks professional.
