MOST of my highest ranking posts from AR were written & published before the 'like' button was even an option. So, 'likes' make absolutely no difference in your Google ranking.

I have received outside comments in the past but, I don't know if that is still possible or not. Even if it is, good content, using keywords is what will help you rank.

I'm not sure if likes and comments have any impact on Google Rankings. However, I think anyone should be able to like and comment (then again, that might increase the likelihood of spam commentary, which AR doesn't seem to be able to completely prevent and/or fully control, yet). - Tim

David,

I have no idea if it matters, and I am not about to just "like" for Google rankings.  When I hit like, I also comment as to why I like. I am not about to be reduced to a Google bots.  A

I don't believe it has any impact. Public being able to comment might just lead to more spam on our comment section.

I doubt that the likes have any impact on the algorithm and webcrawlers. That used to be called the Feature Button (the way members voted for Featured posts) and staff changed the name to be more current with other social media platforms. If it doesn't have an impact then there is no purpose in allowing the public to like, IMHO.

Yes that is a good idea BUT ..... I believe they can FB like without being a member as we are out in Google.

Just a different 'like'.

Unlikely, but if you have many likes you can get a feature and therefor more comments and views.

No.  Likes are an internal concept only.  I have yet to see comments do anything for SEO other than allow someone a way to get a backlink.

According to GOOGLE SEO manual, any engagement will elevate ranking on their service.

However, the real issue becomes does AR conform to Google's protocols that allow this engagement factor to be recognized by Big G's dictates.

This is the same issue that impedes a national MLS, the local association will not agree to or fund to conform to a standard protocol, meaning convoluted data is the promised outcome.

I suggest AR is 100% compliant with 1990 protocols.

No one should be allowed to vote, comment, like or hold an opinion who is not a validated and registered human being.

Likes and comments should come with an associated investment which is registration and confirmed profile.

Now. we really need to nuke all things anonymous.

Google says the number of Facebook likes does not sway the SEO rankings. AR likes is not going to be the exception for the big G. But on each of the platforms that display high like numbers it means engagement, worthwhile, popularity. For that split second you that are pretty darn busy make the decision to tap tap, swipe and scroll or not. More on how Google looks at likes, the thumbs up. Likes are a social signal endorsement. High likes increase trust in your brand.

As far as likes it has no affect. But for comments, the comments then become searchable and the public can find the blog not just through the blog but through comments as well.
