We have very few basements in my area... and they are typically daylight, walk-out basements. Newer construction is often more typically on slab, unless high end home. Sometimes it also depends on the topography... but we have a lot of both slab and crawl.

we have full basements and full concrete walls unless the home is built on an embankment.... or if there is a high water table, the home will be a split entry and pulled up out of the ground with a shorter concrete wall and a framed wall in the basement....  it's tough to sell a slab here and it's rare to find a crawl space.... that's a listing that no one wants in my area........

In the Phoenix area, most homes are built on slabs. Every so often we find a builder that tries to build and sell basement homes, but the soil here is expansive and the cost to build down is greater than up so it just hasn't caught on.

Personally, having come from the midwest I like the idea of a basement. I also like have a wood floor as opposed to concrete. It is so much more comfortable to live on a floor made with wood joists. Concrete is hard on your legs and feet. Especially when you get old.

Basement probably 80% of the time, then a variety of slabs and crawls. Many seniors are  looking for fewer stairs and main level bedrooms these days. The basements, lofts, and upper level are for when grandkids or company visits, or potential rental apt for income to supplement social security.

We have all in the greater Seattle area. Crawlspace is probably most common with slabs being next most and walk out basements, which are on slab next.  We have few fully underground basements due to high water tables.

Crawl is most common here, and our preference probably mostly because we are used to it. Although, we do like basements which are pretty uncommon. There are certain builders who do slab, and some neighborhoods because of high water tables call for it, but overall almost all are on crawl. -Kasey

Slab.  Crawl space is nice, when it's easy to access simply because it makes repairing the pipes easier (and cheaper) than rerouting them.  Slabs I think are probably better for earthquakes though.

Depends on the area of the city you are in around there. One area it is rare to have a slab or crawl, why a poured concrete basement is a rarity in other areas. It is all about price points and soil stability of the area.

Crawl space w/ basement.

And, that's what I prefer.  Like the extra storage area, houses tend to be warmer on main levels...and important for me...makes it easy to install hardwood.  Homes with slabs seem to have lots of issues (as least here).  Floors uneven and way more expensive to do hardwood floors.
