"Competition"  has and will be in existence before I was in this business and likely after I leave.  I am aware of those companies but continue to do my thing.

No disruption and no "competition" at all, Redfin isn't exactly full service. Have you even looked at their market share?

There's no need to try.
And I'm sorry that their venture capital will be wasted.
The truth is that what they call full service and what we provide are miles apart.
We are relationship professionals.
They are not, and never will be.
You cannot lowball to obtain trust.

1. They are not disruptors, they've been around for years, every time the market gets "easy". They've just been known by different names.

2. They are not full service, mathematically they can't be or their model would fail. Don't believe the hype on the low commissions either, read the fine print.

3. Nordstrom never panics when Walmart has a sale. They are not my competition.

I was hoping that going through the other answers before responding someone whould clue me into what VC stands for HOMEiZ.COM HOMEiZGROUP but no one did.  If we are talking about discount brokers then I agree with everyone else. There has only been one discount brokerage in Minot and it didn't last long... consumers want service.

The problem for them is they do not provide FULL service. They lose the personal service and buyers and sellers become numbers and percnentages, not people. Companies with this type of discounts have come and gone for decades while real full service agents soar.

First of all, they DON'T provide the white glove service that a TRUE full-service broker/agent does.

Secondly, my clientele are savvier than that - they are not Wal-Mart shoppers...they prefer Nordstrom!

You build strong relationships and offer a level of service that these companies can't even come close to matching.  They will definitely pick off some of the lower end of the market, however this is a relationship business, and ultimately if you do more to effectively market a home and service the seller or the buyer, you will succeed -IMHO.

Kia sells many cars.  So does BMW, Mercedes and Lexus.  I wonder who has the largest profit margin.  They are all "full service cars" but not all full services are equal.

Underpaid existing Realtors will cause talented Realtors to move on to other professions. Talented people will not enter the profession. The beneficiaries will be real estate litigation attorneys who will bank extricating end-consumers out of massive problems resulting from underrepresentation.

We recently came across a seller who was adamant that she would use Purple Bricks to list her home. We looked into the Agent who met with her & he was NOT EVEN LICENSED to do business in our state. In addition the company required the seller to pay a NON REFUNDABLE $3,500 FEE whether the property sold or not. Discounted? More like ripped-off. As PT Barnum said, there's 1 born every minute!" Just like Foxton's with their 3.5% model, these companies provide sub-par service & DO NOT LAST.

There are 3000 agents in the areas I service and none of those appear to be  Redfin or Purplebricks. There are over 5000 agents in a nearby county and it looks like 13 are from those two companies. I will continue to provide extremely responsive and client-centric services, so I'm not too concerned.

What I can say is I think the Purple Bricks ads are horrid. They are totally anti-other-agent, instead of being positive about whatever service they actually provide.

Very well. "Full Service" is in the eye of the beholder. I consider Redfin a conveyor  belt real estate company, with different people handling different parts of the process with no guarantee of the quality of any element. Sure there are some good people there, but I have many stories where things did not go well for their clients.

The family business I grew up in had a sign that said, "The Sweetness of low price is forgotten long after the bitterness of low quality remains."

When I look for a doctor or surgeon, I don't shop for the one with the cheapest fees....  I want the best that I can afford. The one with the best reputation, quality work, etc...

I think for the most part (with a few exceptions)  the same applies with those looking to buy and/or sell real estate.  This is where name recognition and reputation comes in.
