Until this year, never had a customer not respect my time. Sadly, I experienced it this spring with a customer who was quite demanding , and not at all understanding. I was tempted to fire this customer, but bit my tongue as I thought of all the "future " business by the referrals ..
We closed transaction and have parted ways,, I dont miss that customer, and realize when one upsets the apple cart, it affects all the apples..
My other customers were very happy when that deal was done ( even tho I tried not to ever show my angst)

I have no problem with a serious buyer or seller contacting me. I do have a problem with the endless calls of looky lews, neighbors, dreamers, and vultures that think they can get an answer from me 24/7

Most do. The few that do not, depending on the degree, may not continue to be my clients. Setting expectations and boundaries up front are helpful - I refer to that with my clients as our rules of engagement.

I would like to think that they do. However in todays world of instant gratification and self importance it isn't always like that. I find their was a lot more respect in general before the days of cell phone. Just sayin'

Overall they do and when they don't I usually look in the mirror... I don't HAVE TO respond all of the time. Quite often, they just can't handle reminding themselves to pass something along at a more "reasonable" time (which yes, who is to define that?) and put it on our plate the second it pops into their heads. What we do at that point is up to us. Train the trainer, right?

When you know they dont respect your time, it is best to be firm.
I had a client who was always late. I had to tell them that I could only meet them at the office, and in one case, I let them know I could not show the last home, since that owner had a strict timeline( due to medical reasons) . THis was actually true. Once it affects the time waster, they change, etc.
Also when they call at inapropriate times, I respond the next time I am available .

Yes, but they still test my resolve. That said, meeting #1 I explain how long house tours are and my hours and day off. If there's a problem day one, I refer them to my team members. Although my entire team is Buffini & Company trained, they don't all have the same boundaries I do. I just know a lack of boundaries causes me to be inefficient.

Being late is one of my biggest pet peeves... and I am never late for an appointment. I don't usually have a problem with people being late, but once in a while there is someone who schedules an appointment to see some properties. I let them choose the time that works best for them. I always arrive a few minutes earlier, get the lights on. etc., and then I get a text message about 10 minutes after they were supposed to arrive telling me they are running a 10-15 minutes late!! It is so disrepectful of my time, and it makes us late to see the other properties. I let them know that being late may cause problems if we have 4-5 homes to see and we run past our appointment time and may not be able to get in to those homes.. If they do it again I let them know I can no longer work with them as I have a schedule to keep and other buyers to help.

Yes.
It hasn't been a problem in several years. The last time was a buyer who insisted that I jump the minute she saw a new listing she liked. "I have to see this house today!" We are not in a multiple-offer shortage of inventory market; there is no extreme sense of urgency.
I referred her out.

Sometimes it's tough. I remember one seller who thought she could text me when she got home every night for hours on end. I asked her point blank - are you working at 7:30pm? She said no, then I said neither am I & my work hours are 8 to 7. Ask any quesitons you want during that time only.

Sometimes Paul, you have to remind everyone that time is money. And that you run a business. And a business must be profitable.
I really don't have that issue as I'm pretty direct and firm on that. Clients know where they stand.
'NO' is also part of my vocabulary, 'not possible' and 'not available' as well.

I always put the expectations out there when we meet - phone is on 8-8, and 10-7 on Sunday. If I don't answer, I am with a client, but will return the call as soon as possible.
2,245,575
Firmly and professionally. People waste your time if you allow it. You set the pace and when you see red flags and that this is a time suck, not productive. You neck rein and politely shift gears and be productive.
4,319,773

Yes, most of he time. Once in a while they do not. I had one that I started to contact at odd hours like he did me. He asked why I was doing that and I told him that was what he was doing to me so I figured it would be ok to do the same.. he changed his ways and still bought a home through me.
182,965
I give them opportunity to ask more Questions until working hours. The more question they ask we connect more with their loan scenario.
92,082
I clearly set my expectations for them and me right from the beginning. So far, haven't had to fire anyone yet... nor have I had the issue come up.
613,494
1,153,794
It often takes them a couple of tries. When they see that I respect their time things are more easily turned around.
7,863,162
You simply have to control your own time. Limit the time to be spent when the appointment is scheduled.
766,079
Some do, some don't. I let them know that I have a schedule and may have to cut our appointment short to accommodate other clients. I know some of my clients have a tendency to be late so I'll call them to see what time their gps says they will be at the home. I'll also let them know that they may miss seeing a home they like should the owner no longer want to show beyond the scheduled time.
715,782
You have to set standards from the start and let your clients know you have a set schedule and others who you also work with.
