That's horrible.  I am curious what the age of that slow poke driver is.  I see a lot of older folks driving well under the speed limit.

When I was a kid, we were traveling on the Freeway and experiencing car trouble so my Uncle was driving slow.  We got rear-ended.  Driving too slow IS dangerous.

What a horrible 45 car pile-up!  I think a slow-poke is not only dangerous, but a nuisance as well -- just slows up the entire flow!

How horrible... while I have no empirical data which is worse, I've often felt that people who drive too slowly on a busy interstate are a bigger menace.

I think it is the slow pokes honestly. We can now go 65 in some areas in IL & they go 45. It's just too much of a difference. They also always think they are the only people on the road.

Dang... indeed too slow drivers are an 'obstacle' that impede circulation. When I drive on the freeway, I see speeders coming. No issues - I know they are coming. I let them through. Slow drivers that block, you never see them until a last minute dodge.

I personally believe they are both dangerous. Not knowing exactly how fast you are thinking, I’d say the slow driver is typically the more menacing driver on the road, causing many to come to a sudden slowdown. Once that happens it is tough to gain acceleration to pass them with the flow of traffic. The excessively fast 95+ driver gets into the same category as the slow driver IMO

Update a day later:  a motorcyclist remains in critical condition.  He slammed into the back of a parked truck that reportedly had no tail lights or brake lights turned on.

Florida Highway Patrol is now placing more blame on the weather (rain).  But the first reports were that a semi-truck jackknifed trying to avoid hitting a slow moving car in the center lane (of the three westbound lanes here on Interstate 10).

Another note... some people parked their cars in the emergency lanes, and they/their cars were slammed into.  Suggest that if you ever come across an accident blocking the freeway, get completely off the road; drive off the pavement and get over into the grass.  The people who did that are the ones who were able to drive away after they finally cleared up the wrecks.

    Please drive carefully!

The gov lenders and purposed 'smart dudes' in the State of Florida submitted a change in FL law that allowed 'no speed limit' if in the left lane several years ago. Clearly these jerks wanted to drive 90 MPH from Orlando and Jacksonville to Tallahassee. It is this type of thinking, this great feeling of imposition these people who embrace an entitlement mentality that make life for those who abide by the law dangerous.

Lets admit it, one reason Americans buy GREAT BIG A$$ rides is we know the law of physics will allow the bigger to prevail, be safer, as we drive as we please.

Do you suppose that big rig driver was perhaps fatigued, pressing the speed limit, even a part of a convoy that prevented drivers from entering the right lane to get out of the way of the bumper riders in their Ford 350's.

Everyone needs to chill out and slow down. That's the OPPOSITE of EVERYONE GO FASTER so the crash ahead can be SENSATIONAL!

To make roads safer, all vehicles need to travel the same speed, but I get to pick the speed.  What ever speed is selected more that 50% of drivers will be offended.
