I get your frustration.

When we upgraded, our posts became visible to the public and crawlable by search engines. Prior posts did not change, however, unless we manually reposted them. 

Discontinued membership doesn't change the public status of posts, as I understand it. I doubt you'll get reimbursed if you change your mind, but I have a suggestion. Spend that month blogging/commenting your heart out and earn enough points to get a free membership - I forget how many points you need, but blogging and commenting every day will help. It took us a few months to do that, but, for us, it was well worth the investment.

I sent a couple of emails wanting to know the conditions when upgrading because I need my articles to be visible by the public and crawlable by search engines.

I'm working with a couple of clients in the Spanish property sector and ActiveRain looks like a great place to get more exposure online and build authority in their areas of expertise.

What I'd like to know is, when someone upgrades, are the links followed so as to get the most out of the content?

If they are followed then I'd be happy to take out an upgrade.

Does existing content before upgrade get moved to "public" status so that it gets crawled too?

If a membership is discontinued at some time in the future, do the articles stay public and visible?

I was initially thinking of doing a one month trial to see if it was suitable for my needs and then upgrade to full year if happy with everything as I don't want to throw away money until I know the conditions and facilities.

Will the one month payment get reimbursed if I decide to go with the full year option after paying for a one month trial?

Any answers to these questions would be much appreciated.:)
