Haven't done it, but I could see it happening for consumer facing posts (e.g. market reports, listings, etc.) that you don't want someone being contrarian and damaging the post's worth.  Then you have to delete the comment (been there, done that) and risk the ire of the commenter.  Bottom line, consumers rarely comment, they call/email/text, so disabling comments doesn't do any harm on those posts.

Listing posts = comments always disabled.
I want the listing to be the star, number one. Number two, I have had people pick listings apart (granted, distant past, long memory) and I'm not having it.

Hi Fred Griffin I have seen that on blogs before, don't know why someone would disable commenting on blogs.

I don't believe I've ever disabled comments, Fred. I think sometimes people reblog a post and prefer comments be posted on the original author's blog so they disable commenting.

I've never disabled comments to date. One time Nate Gesner disabled comments on a post about Memorial Day or Veterans Day and he wanted people to not be distracted with commenting. He had a good reason I thought. -Kasey

I have not personally. Reason for disabling comments - hmm, maybe if it's a controversial subject and writer prefers to avoid negative responses?

I believe I have. I do not recall when or why. I believe it was on re-blogs and I wanted people to comment on the original post.
I would not second guess why anyone else would disable. We have seen some serial posters that took over the blogroll with market reports - and I believe, do not know for certain, comments were disabled.

I never have and don't understand why some do. MOST of the time, with listings and market reports, members comments boost our SEO.

If they're worried about negative comments on public-facing posts, just delete the comments they don't like!

It's frustrating when you've read an entire blog and formulated a comment in your head only to scroll down to find the comments disabled. SUCH a waste of time for other members. I don't think they realize that though.

Only once, it was after the meltdown and I did a post defending ageents who do great things for not-profit fundrasing and I was attacked constantly  by the Sack and Ashes group. They blamed agents for the meltdown and they were even harassing me by phone. I had to stop them.

I very rarely don't!  Yeah, I lose 6 points per comment I don't get... so maybe 18-32 points lost, but I also don't get spammers and knuckleheads.  In addition, the comments I do get (since I post mostly listing blogs) are the drive-by comments and I decided I don't want anything other than my message being out there.

There are many reasons/

1. too many escort organization are subscribers to the service

2. The target audience (buyers/owners) are not the comment audience (agents) so the 'quite please' feature is enabled.

3. Historically, the comments have proven to be of NO VALUE and that degrades the value of the post so the writer chooses to PROTECT the readers most precious possession, TIME.  No time-hole comments to pursue.

I have not disabled comments... often the comments is what is most interesting on a blog and give the article or post some weight in the eyes of the reader.  I suppose if I did not want to monitor or respond to any blog comments that may be a good reason to "disable".
