I'm with you, Dorie.  My guess is people don't want any negative comments on their posts

I think it's because the author is concerned about negative comments being posted and then read by the homeowner.... or a negative comment about facts in a marketplace....

The author has designed the post to be "consumer facing" and found via Google... they don't want comments from Active Rain to muddy them up.

If you are so am I Dorie Dillard CRS GRI ABR . I don't ever understand disabling comments unless they are very questionable like this recent post.

      That was my question earlier tonight.  The whole purpose of Social Media, which includes blog sites like AR, is to start conversations!

I have no idea, Dorie. I only do it on reblogs, but I ask the readers to go to the original post and comment in that case.

I do not believe you are Dorie. Some folk just see it necessary for whatever their reasons are. 

They may come from a world where people criticize eachother in public settings like this, or they fear that they would.

That is always an option.

I don't get it either, Dorie.  Those comments more often than not, boost our SEO - and our sellers love seeing what others think of their homes too!

I've often wondered that myself Dorie Dillard CRS GRI ABR maybe the post's writer is concerned with what comments might be written...these days, you never know what might show up!

I did not know this was an option.  I like people to respond to my posts.

I used to allow comments on listings and market blogs.  I had a member give me grief for my 8 market blogs (this is back when everyone was complaining about the coldwell banker agent that would post 300 on Saturday morning and Peggy that did 5 an hour).  I got back at him with my reply, but should have just deleted his arse.  He knows who he is, he used to be a regular in the Q&A.

As to listings, I've never gotten a bad comment here.  For both listings and market reports all I got as comments were the drive-by "nice listing" or "wow your market is expensive" type comments... which I've been guilty of leaving in the past too.  After being called out on it (and rightly so) by a well respected member of AR and reading a LOOONG time ago that my spiritual sister Candice A. Donofrio didn't allow comments so nothing could detract from the blog, I adopted it too.

Plus, it helps cut down on all the spam attacks people get in their blogs.

Now, I will allow comments on blogs that I think are worthy of discussion, such as the ones I've posted about attacks and tips & tricks for active rain.

I question the same Dorie. 

That means the writer does not need to be in a perpetual maintenance mode of weeding the spam and exotic dancers and escort opportunities.

Or, the writer has determined that little of fabric will be added and chose to bypass the 'social responsibility' of responding to, 'great post' comments.

These folks are usually just launching to Google

I would assume they aren't interested in having anyone make negative comments.

Comments don't help seo, they actually dilute any seo advantage. They rarely add anything of value to the post. Most of the comments look artificial which dimishes the professionalism of the post. The real question is why do people allow comments.

The flawed logic of the writer

I WANT comments. Comments adds a dicsussion, gets more eyes on my market report or listing AND puts it in more searches online by getting a comment which now becomes searchable. By turning it of, you limit eyes on your report or listings

Only thing I can figure out is that they maybe don't want a bunch of generic comments from other agents on their listings? Sometimes the comments on posts do seem too much like they are a shill.

I am thinking they truly are unaware that they have disabled the comments.

The delete button is my friend and I never disable comments.

I figured that it was so no one left negative remarks but never thought about that it would also nix the ability for anyone to leave spam. 

No idea.
