I would expect there not to be a landline, especially since most phone systems you buy these days have one dedicated base unit and the rest connect wirelessly to it.
Data cables are still an option as far as I know. Gigabit Cat6 and some homes out here were (years ago) built with a fiber run to the house and a dedicated networking closet. Must have been a former IT guy designing the homes. LOL!
Personally, I'd rather have wired for my computers when possible and with the right cables. Of course, Gigabit speeds on the LAN are nice for transfering files or streaming locally, but you're going to have that internet connection be your choke point. Mine only can do 100mbps, so it doesn't matter what speeds I get internally, since Netflix or Active Rain can only come in at 100mbps.

No, if a buyer wants it, they install them when they select their wiring options.

Most are not including phone line but just the cable line where they can get phone and nternet through Comcast

Not yet Jeff Pearl . I hope they keep including the coax for a while as it can be used for several things.

I didn't realize that was the trend but I guess I understand it. I would personally prefer to have the wiring and not need it than to not have it and have to install it after the build.

Yep, that wall phone receptacle is GONE!
However, there is 50% MORE wiring in the house than before. Low amperage lighting and appliances means that power panel can support more power outles (w/usb chargers), communications, control and entertainment.
NOTE: during every hurricane the wirless networks go off-line and the pwr grid goes dark. What does work is the landline and ONSTAR.

Our "new" home, which is nearly 4 years old now, does not have wiring for a phone. I have this phone sitting on my desk and nowhere to plug it in...

Builders are now building "smart" houses. Problem is, they are smarter than some of the buyers need them to be. Your new house will connect to your new car. You will be able to turn onto your street and tell the car to open the garage, turn on the lights, set the furnace temp and pre-heat the oven.

Not seeing that here yet. But then again, I last sold new construction in 2017, so not sure what 2018 builders did.

Most builders have stopped putting it in spec homes. Buyers who want it need to request it.

They are replacing the copper phone wires with Cat 5 or 6 cabling which can also be used for old-fashioned landlines or VOIP phone service and internet.
