I think that you will find our swamp is self-draining. Really awful people don't tend to remain. And the powers-that-be do nuke them. Just report and ignore.

Obviously, a lot of what is considered insulting, bullying, etc. is subjective depending upon the thickness of one's skin and the very reason that the "Smite Button" is controlled by ActiveRain Staff and not by the community.

Historically the real jerks in the community have either found their own way out the door, or caused enough commotion that they were shown the door.

I know of a number who have been "kicked out" of the Rain for inappropriate comments.  I like Scott Godzyk's overall approach. We can also self-police by deleting those comments and "ghosting" those people ourselves.

That is an unnecessary and unprofessional behavior.

How would it be enforced?  If you(or others) are a victim report specifics to support.  Remember interpretation as Joe Pryor answered. 

We have a policy here (Community Guidelines) and we should also be adult enough to manage ourselves. The Golden Rule should apply in all areas of our lives, including AR.

In my opinion, those who bully make my "NEVER Refer" list as I'm sure they do others. So, they're only hurting themselves.

The golden rule applies here as well as in the marketplace.

It should not be done. Don't like a post, skip it and move on!

Andy Brown-Climer School of Real Estate I think we members do a pretty good job of policing the comments here.  One KEY word in your question is "members". Anonymous Blue Heads are NOT members nor are they Real Estate Professionals! A student forced to ask a question by their instructor that has been asked many times over is NOT what this form is  about any more than the escorts from Dubai are.

I would need examples since this may be subject to interpretation. However, there should never be ad hominem attacks rather that disputing the premise of the post or comment.

I would like to see 1 warning and then much like the Facebook 30 day jail, suspended for 30 days unless vulgar or threatening, then banned from the violation. 

I say treat others as you want to be treated.

It should be discouraged.

The number of snappy responses I have gotten from other members is craazzzyy. But what can you do, really? Can't censor sassy. 

As Liz and Bill Spear and Fred Griffin succinctly referenced the Community Guidelines and particularly guiding principle number 8 of Weltanschauung.

And I would add, IMHO, if you see something egregious don't hesitate call the offender out and come to the aid of the innocent party... nonsense  is not welcome nor easily tolerated here.

We are NO BETTER than the rest of the Social Media population. There seems to be an entitled empowerment when only the keyboard infers accountibility.

Well the club rules say "we got ethics; but does that matter in anything?.

My position is if one posts nonsense, they need to be able to defend their nonsense. There does need to be accountability.

People tend to self-police pretty well here.

There already is a policy - go read it. I know what it says. We ususally spread it around after the 1st of the year.

Fred Griffin gave you a great answer.

I would hope that professional adults can use the same approach we teach our children: "If you don't have anything nice to say, don't say anything".  Or in this day and age, "just keep scrolling". 

That's one reason I disable comments on my blogs.  I've only received one once (and he knows who he is) on a market blog.  I shut him down.  Now I disable comments.  Helps stop the spam comments too.

Spam is one thing. Snarky remarks are something else. We should be able to recognize the differenced and delete one and treat the other however we wish to.

I am thankful that I have learned to pay attention ... it does not take too long to see who the phony bolognas are - and who the real butt wipes are.

I just ignore them ... use the delete button. Beyond that, I don't spend any of my precious energy on them.

There is really no need to impose one's opinions on others here or anywhere for that matter. Not everyone is going to see things the same way. This Community has flourished because of it's diversity & dedicated professionals who add value on a daily basis. Flagrant disrespect for others in the community would best be handled with a suspension. That's how other social media networks function; you get a Time Out.

The policy is you don't do it publicly, as long as it doesn't border on censorship of opinions. I think the point is that differences in opinion should be expressed respectfully. My concern is sometimes with those who don't like blatant misinformation pointed out when it should in fact be brought to light.

We do have a policy on this, if you see it either hit the report button or send a note to Bob Stewart 

Delete any unwanted comments on your blog posts. Others can do the same.

There is an official policy in the Community Guidelines but the Golden Rule works pretty well.

I just joined recently. I posted a question in the just for fun section in an effort to who is where and how they are doing. Also, their repsonses help me find who I would and would not refer business to if needed. I have to say 99% of the repsonses were very nice. However 1 bad apple can spoil the bunch. I noticed that same negative responder has answered negativley on other posts as well. It's a shame. I thought this would be a good group of people to meet and have common interest with. I am rethinking that now. I will just let the rotten apple have her audience becasue apparently AR is not doing anything about her. 

You and I work with the public and there are happy campers, Eeyore's, bullies and like the Hard Rock we love all serve all. Don't let the member being insulted swing in the wind for fear the venom is headed your way next. Band together and join the discussion with something worthwhile to offer. As for me, if a person's postings and comments do not add value, I quickly note their name and move on. Then when they pop up again, I move on.
