Paul - I wasn't called nor served until I was in real estate.  That daily per diem is certainly attractive,  isn't it?  I have served multiple times.  It's an inconvenience but as I recall wasn't too much of an issue otherwise.

Yes, but I was working in a corporate job at the time. It was a lot of fun - a civil case where a pastor was being sued by a man and woman who were married to other people and had an affair. The pastor outed them at a church service in front of their children and told the congregation not to go to their place of business or associate with them because they were running with the devil. Oh my, what drama. They lost a lot of money and business (both of them) and they were suing. Unfortunately, after a week or so of witnesses, both sides rested and they sent us away for a very long lunch. When we came back they had settled. All that time listening and we weren't able to actually do anything. Oh well.

I have, but it was during a six month hiatus when we first returned to NYC from overseas and I wasn't working. I've been called several times here in Charlotte and dismissed by end of day. Our jury areas are well appointed to let us work on the computer, speak on the phone, read, etc.

Once...I was picked as juror #2 for a Federal case and when they called the names of those that would be testifying in the case, they named a friend of mine that is an FBI agent.  I immediately spoke with the Judge and was released since knowing a witness would not be fair to the case since it could potentially sway my vote.

Yes I have. AND it was a murder trail!

You do what you have to do. Some call backs were made when I was available. All who called responded favorably to the voice message announcing my civic duty. And no, they didn't bail because they knew they would hear a great story when it was all over.  The story would begin, "What happens when one crook meets another crook and they need to prove who is the baddest-ass?"

Have been called 3 times.

Once served on a one day trial.

Another time, case was settled, so did not have to go to trial.

Third time, did not have to go because had just served the year before.

I have been fortunate to avoid being chosen to serve on a jury.  Because I had to call in every night to see if I had to report the next day, I couldn't schedule anything for that week.  It was miserable and I had to keep everyone and everything as flexible as possible.

Yes, many years ago when we lived up north. It was terrible timing because I had just started a new job a few months earlier but the company policy was no one could be excused due to work (even the president did his turn) so I went. I was selected a a juror, sat through a long trial and then voted foreman so missed an entire week of work. It was inconvenient but all worked out in the end.

My husband was called for jury duty here some time ago, same thing happened to him. He was only a couple months into a new job so requested that it be rescheuled to a later date and was called again a few months later. His company also insisted that he go and was selected as a juror, sat through a trial and missed a week's work but in the end, was glad he went.

It's inconvenient to miss time at work but it's a great experience and gives you a whole new perspective on our legal system...much different than what you see on television. I think everyone should serve at least once.

Yes, I have participated several times. But then I found out that if you work as an Election Judge you are excused from jury duty. So I did election duty for several years. I stopped doing that a couple of years ago. Now, I am knocking on wood.

This is my 4th call for jury duty in 8 years and this is the first time I have had to call in the day before each day for 2 weeks. It is very hard to make any firm plans except on weekends.

I have never tried to escape my civic duty however my new county has a new doctrine to call jurors every 12 to 18 months... Yikes>>>>

Yes and it is a very worthwhile experience. Three cases, the 12 jurors have a lot of brain power and common sense when combined and combing the facts. The system works and do you part, don't try to skirt. It puts you up close in the court system, your meals with the other jurors brings you closer. I was the foreman. One other time selected but because of being a broadcast news director and during ratings week, I was dismissed. My program director did not want me to be out of sweeps week.

Yes and it did not. I tried and could not get dismissed. The judge did not care, yet during one session a guy who said he hates Italians was dismissed while i was made to stay. Eventually i learned i could appeal and the judge ruled i had to stay and serve for one trial instead of the 3 they mandate. I was picked for a real estate trial of all things, i found it exciting, it is 2 days lost and i had to make up a lot. But it was exciting

I have been called three times. Once had to call in every night and see if I had to go in. Ended up not having to. Once I had a newborn and got out of it because I was nursing. Once I ended up on a jury for 5 days for local bank robberies. The guy represented himself, and even though bank robberies are serious, this whole thing was hilarious. His defense was full of drama, conspiracy, and untruths, it was outrageous, but kept us all quiet entertained. He was found guilty in about 7 minutes and most of those 7 minutes we were talking about how ridiculous it all was. Then the prosecutors came in to debrief us and told us he'd been convicted of bank robbery in other jurisdictions too (evidence that was imaterial in this trial so we didn't know). I thought it was a great experience. John just covered for me with business stuff. -Kasey
