Are you asking about the person who asked about referral companies? I read that thread of comments and saw nothing untoward. The only comment I raised my eyebrows about was the one by the person who posted the question... I found her response to be not overly civil and don't appreciate  someone who asks a question to tell us which answers are acceptable and how we should answer.

From my persective, if you ask a question and some answers are not appropos, ignore those. Don't tell people who answered that their answers didn't suit you.

I read that thread, and I did not respond. The only thing that was rude was her insistence that people not respond unless they gave her EXACTLY what she wanted.

WHICH, as noted, DOES NOT EXIST.

There are a lot of smart people here and they have experience, designations and systems in place.

Why not wrap one's mind around the possibility that someone may know something others don't?

Bob - although I couldn't identify the person from your question, the replies revealed the member.  I think my response was appropriate for the question. If it offended her, I apologize but my response may be the same the next time it is asked if I decide to respond. 

I think as a rule of thumb, if you don't have anything nice to say than don't say it.

I don't think most people around here realize that in most internet forums, which the Q&A kind of is, non-answers are frown upon and are not expected.

So, when new members get 80% of non-answers, they get a little surprised and may say something.

I think I know which member you're referring to - I made my comment and then read the others. I honestly thought her comment was the only rude comment on the thread - at least up to the point I read the question. 

I will say that if I had read comments first, I probably wouldn't have bothered with an answer - she seemed like she already knew what she wanted us to say and I gave her my honest answer. I didn't think I was rude - at least I hope I wasn't...despite her rudeness.

Did not follow that thread... it's unfortunate to see angry or inappropriate comments.

I missed this one. Thanks for the reminder Bob. Altough I don't know the specifics of this case I have often wonderend about the case of the Utah students. (Did i just sense a collective groan?) :-)

I joined AR in Arizona more than a decade ago when it was free. I moved to Utah a few years ago. If my first action on AR had been as a student who was requested by his instructor to ask a question I would have probably quickly learned that this would not be a place to spend my money.

I know this one is a hot potato. The Blue Utah students have contributed many questions that can easily look redundant and spammy. I doubt any of them know what they're in for until they see the responses.

A while back I did a Q&A asking if any of these students found a reason to stay. So far I've found none.

It's easy to be sarcastic and dismissive- especially when we feel the need to police the place. It's a good reminder Bob. Civility is a virtue. Though we may see many cases in which the other party does not deserve a civil response, I still think it's worth thinking before we type and hit the post button.

Not only that Bob Crane, there are a few members who will attack another member when politely differing in opinion on their posts - plus not everyone is meant to agree when questions are posted. They can be very entertaining at times!

We all offer something unique to this forum and I appreciate it when someone stops to make a comment, at least they showed up - cannot control drive-bys either! Lately, I have not been commenting as much as I used to on member posts. 

We can all do better, be better as professionals.

If the point seekers, especially those who have free accounts, keep chasing away new "Paying" members it will lead to the eventual downfall of the site. Without new income this place is doomed.

First of all the question was vague, and if she really wanted the answer, she would have clarified.  She already knew the answer and was looking for something she did not clearly ask.   Then she took her toys and went home.  This is not the behavior of someone, I would refer to anyone.  

My time is worth something Bob Crane and if anonymous people are going to ask stupid questions then I'm at least going to enjoy the time I wasted and let them know they are idiots.

When there is a question without a name or what looks like a fictious name I click on the profile and so often I see a spammer.

I guess I'm not spending enough time in the Q&A forum to know what's going on...I always live by the motto of say something nice or say nothing at all.  That being said, I am a straight-shooter.

I really need to stop by more often..... lost on me!  Maybe I retired too soon....

It is a "Wonderful World' where one can ask a question and also dictate the responses to confirm they can do what they were going to do anyway.

It has been my impression no one asks a question on AR that they do not already have their answer and action in place.

Those whose time is sooooo precious that "thanks for asking' is offensive to them are too fragile for this business.

Well, I completely missed the original post and the comments, (now deleted) and yet feel compelled to comment anyway.  

From these comments to Bob, it appears that a number of people thought the OP was rude in tone and not really interested in getting answers because she already knew what the "answer" was.  My personal opinion is that when I perceive a tone of rudeness, I simply don't engage, especially in a public forum.

Since the dawn of internet forums, I've subscribed to the theory that if I would be unhappy seeing my comment on the front page of my local newspaper, it was the wrong thing to put in any venue that others could see.

I believe a little more tolerance and politeness can go a long way in our society in general (not just our profession) and if we can't manage that.... as my mother always said, "If you don't have something nice to say, don't say anything at all."

Well said.....kindess and patience is needed more on this forum...as well as some thick skin if you one receives a response in disagreeement.... Learning and eductating are a couple of the great assets of this platform I enjoy....
