I have not. In fact, in over two decades I've not ever even had capital gains come into play.

I have an CPA client who facilitates these but, he would have to explain the pros and cons.

No, never have used a CRT or been involved with one. Not exactly sure what one even is - sounds like proceeds of a sale go to a charity - thus avoiding being considered income or something along those lines. If I ever have a client looking to sell something to contribute to some cause or organization I will check into it at that time.

I have not Michelle Carr-Crowe Just Call 408-252-8900 Top 1%! . I worked with very few investors with the exception on builders and developers. None of which used a CRT.

No, not in 20 years. And given I've had no experience in this; it's not a question I or any REALTOR who hasn't should answer. It's advice that exceeds our license, unless you're telling astory about how a client of yours did it.

A competent CPA will be a better person. A tax lawyer is even better.

My alma mater has suggested that I use a CRT. I can't imagine why they think I need such a device. My estate is not so large that there will be much left over after I spend my way through retirement and take care of my loved ones with bequests.

I have been accused of being greedy because I parked my dollar donated in an advisory fund before removing it; I can't imagine what people who don't know if I use a CRT!
The IQ calculator maker offers to compare and differentiate both, and it shows one way in which both can be used together to eliminate one of the disadvantages of a CRT.

Other vehicles that can achieve the same thing in different ways are residual charity trusts (CRTs). I know a little about them but haven't explored this concept in detail.

Thanks all. I've read of people using this strategy. I hoped someone else here had done it and could share some helpful info.

For trusts you'll want to also speak with a trust or estate planning attorney.
