The BEST is the closed transaction.

 I don't really have a "best" closing gift. We've given out gift certificates to various restaurants and that's always "good" but not the "best".

Now that I'm pressing myself to answer the question - the most rewarding and the best closing gift is making a donation in the clients name to a charity of their choice. It's amazing how much "credit" you will get from both the client and the organization (even though the donation is in the client's name - you're handing over the check - you get a lot of juice).

We've given select clients closing gifts = $100 value but it was only because we wanted to. 

Waterford crystal.  I once gave a young couple Waterford salt and pepper shaker.  I received a thank you note: "thanks for the nice glass salt and pepper shaker"/

If you know your clients well, every closing gift is the best for them, because it shows you paid attention  to their likes, hobbies or favorite______.

Define "best".  I do not kiss and tell. 

My 3rd closing was a very expensive home.  Rented a limo for clients and her sister/husband and we all went to dinner.

I would certainly like to know the responses you get. I struggle with this one frequently. Try to make it personal to each client. Often gift cards for Home Depot or Lowes or something of their choice.
