Learned suggests that one was able to utilize knowledge obtained via experience. In other words, you don't know it until you get an opportunity to use it and see if it works.

Teaching may or may not be received or fully absorbed and may not be practically applicable.

Did you know that the commonly accepted statement that we use only 10% of our brain is not true? Technically we use all of our brain in one way or another.

What are you going to do with that?

Semantics.....

But to me - without looking anything up - being learned connotates having been able to not only absorb data but being able to think and act accordingly while being taught has a memorization without too much evaluation of data - regurgitated facts data/feel to it.

My first thought was that it depends on what part of the country you are in! It sounds like rural dialect spoken in parts of the country if you use it as "I am being learned". Otherwise, I agree with Nina.

Learned could imply self taught.  I taught my spouse to look up things as we do not know everything. 

My sibling come up with speculation which often is incorrect. She was a reference librarian never learned Boolean operator or look up for answers. She is the most learned person.

if an individual has learned, they've experienced a situation rather than being instructed...
