It seems as if a workaround, as you mentioned, would be the most logical way to purchase a home. We read/hear of stories. It seems Bitcoin is back in the ActiveRain "news". In fact, Anna Banana Kruchten CRB, CRS 602-380-4886 had a post yesterday where she saw a bitcoin kiosk at a store.

I have not. I had a client ask if he could do that. I did a little checking and was told the same thing, you'd have to convert.

They used to deal with company script in many of the logging and mining towns, that had to be converted at a price in order for anything real to be purchased too.

No. I've heard of a couple (two people, one in Malibu and one in Chicago IIRC) offering it as more of a marketing gimmick than anything else. They got free press for it.
Bitcoin is still not legal tender and in California no title company will accept it. You'll still need to sell them for the US Dollar, just like with stocks, before you can use them to purchase.

Paul,
I did show a house that had a bitcoin data room in the basement. He had so many blade servers running that I’m surprised the main breaker wasn’t popping. I don’t know if he had to sell some to buy his next house or not.

Personally, I have no interest in going that way.

I know there was a bitcoin related purchase in Brooklyn, NY a year or two ago. Given the instability of valuations though- it would have had to sold at a tremendous premium. I have a former colleague from my days in the hedge fund world that was involved in a coin startup, but it really didn't take off.
I like the basis of the technology- but whether it stands a chance at succeeding is anyone's guess. I think it would have to be regulated and stabilized for it to stand a real chance. Also note that because mining for coins is so insanely power intensive- it's not very environmentally friendly- at least not with today's computers- though quatum computing would likely change that.
