Weather forecasts always amaze me. I watch and wonder.  and wonder and wonder.

It is difficult to predict and regular people (even lifelong Florida residents) do not always understand how to read the hurricane maps.  They think the cone of uncertainty means areas where it won't be as bad.  The cone of uncertainty is actually all the places that could get hit if the meterologist is less than perfect, which I think we can safely no meterologistis is perfect.  The cone of uncertainty is like the margin of error.

Still hard to predict; however, they have made great strides over the last 50 years.

It's an unpredictable science, to be sure. But it's always amazed me that little boys who lie a lot grow up to be weathermen, and meterology is a profession you can be wrong about a good part of the time and still get paid for it

We are waiting for it to get through the Bahamas before making a decision.

JUST IN: Hurricane Dorian remains a major Category 4 storm, no longer expected to make landfall in Florida.

Predicting a force that powerful ... only a force equal to or greater than its force will know ... the direction it will take. 

they can't "guestimate" based on past history, which is really all predictions are in any genre they happen in... last year everyone was screaming "buy now rates are going up" and now they they lower than last year.  We don't know until it happens. We can only prepare based on historic knowledge and hope for the best.

I have always said that Mother Nature cannot read a FEMA map, and although I'm sure we can come close with technology and science, nature follows a higher authority.

The past week in Florida should remind us that hurricanes are unpredictable.  After a week, we still have no real answers to where Dorian will go.  Hopefully, it will turn north and stay at sea.  The devistation that is still unknown in the Bahamas will be shocking to most.  

Be safe, everyone.  Stuff can be replaced.  You can't be replaced.  

The only job where being right half the time is a good thing

Even in 2019, weather prediction is an inexact science.

Having experienced hurricanes when I lived in Florida, forecasting is a best guess and constantly changing. Prepare as if you are going to take a direct hit!

I would hate to have to come up with the path.

Only job someone can be wrong in and keep there jobs.

Just returned from Pompano Beach FL. (an exceptional vacation for me)

106 miles due east of the Bahamas.

I have been in Florida when the width of the storm was much more than the width of the state. That when you realize THERE IS NO PLACE TO HIDE.

And I witnessed those leaving Miami to shelter in Orlando only to have the eye follow them....skipping Miami.  But even worse were those caught on the freeway, in bumper-to-bumper with the most terrible thoughts going through their brains.

I recently visited a safe haven from hurricanes during my recent rock climbing expedition to W.Va. No hurricane worries there. But then I visited Richwood. The town was devastated by water cascading from the top of the hills and flooding/destroying homes high above the river and the roadways are still just pressed gravel.

We need to be resilient and choose to be prepared for calamity, because the reality is, THERE IS NO PLACE TO HIDE.

Kyle had a few too many pints before going on that trip.

Prediction trends are just that and can vary greatly. All I know is real estate has come to a screeching halt on the East Coast due to this storm and the rest of the Country will end up paying the result of the damage in the form of much higher insurance premiums.

It's always hard to tell. One of our hometown favorite meteorologist is retired and right now has a huge following on FB because everyone wants to know his predictions. He's been giving updates a few times a day. And yes, I stop to read them. 

I figure there is nothing any of us can really do, so the weather is the weather.
